✊ **𝗪𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗼 𝗶𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼** said Niklas Gustafsson on Monday night about the transition of Volvo Trucks. Not easy knowing the company's ambition is to have 100% of their products to be driven by fossil-free fuels by 2040! The fifth and final case study of the year for our members with Niklas Gustafsson from Volvo Group highlighted 𝟮 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝟭/𝟮🔋 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗺𝗮: the critical issue of sourcing materials for electric vehicle (EV) batteries. As the global shift toward EVs accelerates, the demand for raw materials such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel is intensifying, raising significant challenges in the mining industry that has not done its transition to sustainable energy. • Transforming Resource Sourcing: The transition to EVs isn’t just about cleaner transport—it’s also about how we source and use critical resources. For sustainability, the mining industry must adapt and meet growing demands responsibly. • Innovation and Circular Economy: The industry of EV batteries must embrace innovations in techniques and move towards a more circular economy, where materials are reused and recycled to reduce the need for raw extraction (as further discussed with @Thomas Leysen during our Umicore case study). #SustainableMining #ElectricVehicles #RawMaterials #CircularEconomy #Sustainability Huge thanks to Niklas Gustafsson, Sybille van den Hove, and IBA (Olivier Legrain, Marie Gahylle and their colleagues) for making this happen.

Moving beyond greenwashing 🌿 - A call for 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 impact 💡 "The actions of a company make little sense if only a portion of its activities is considered; therefore, they must be viewed comprehensively." - Lessons from 2030’s members. Sustainability in business isn't just a box to check. It's a systemic transformation. At 2030, members shared that low-hanging fruits are definitely great motivations to start the journey towards bigger changes. However, these low-hanging fruits should always result from a systemic analysis and be the first steps of a global roadmap for all colleagues to understand the ongoing journey they are embarking on. To truly lead in 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, businesses must: 1️⃣ Think holistically: Embrace governance, environmental, and social aspects together. 2️⃣ Move beyond offsetting: Measure, reduce, and focus on net impact before considering offsets. 3️⃣ Integrate sustainability into the business core: From product design to supply chains, it all needs to align. Many have moved beyond superficial green initiatives and are diving deep into transformative, transparent actions. Together, let's redefine what corporate success looks like. Are you ready to lead by example? #SustainableLeadership #ImpactNotOffset 🌱 #2030 #HolisticSustainability #ESG #CorporateTransformation

🌍✨ Shared governance: A catalyst for sustainability in big businesses. The example of Patagonia. In today’s complex world, sustainability requires more than individual leadership — it calls for a shared governance approach that involves diverse stakeholders across a company. Shared governance ensures that decisions reflect a multitude of perspectives, fostering inclusivity, transparency, and collective accountability. This model is crucial for driving the deep, systemic changes needed for sustainability, especially in large organizations. A notable example is Patagonia. Known for its commitment to the environment, Patagonia uses a shared governance structure to integrate sustainability into its core operations. Another very important governance choice Patagonia made was the following: Yvon Chouinard transferred 98% of the company’s stock to a nonprofit group, and 2%, plus all decision-making authority, to a different trust, making Earth Patagonia’s sole shareholder. In May, during our conference 💬, we had the chance to welcome Yvon's friend and right-hand at Patagonia: its Philosophy Officer, Vincent Stanley. He shared how one of his colleagues mentioned it was not her manager that guided her in her job, but the tree outside her window. The event, hosted at TheMerode, was a collaboration that inspired many. Watch our insightful discussion with Vincent Stanley and Erik Gomez Baggethun here: 👉👉👉 https://lnkd.in/e8baqPsb At 2030, we believe that such models are the future for resilient and responsible enterprises. 🌳 To lead sustainably, we must share leadership, integrate diverse voices, and think beyond profit. SMEs and large businesses cross-fertilization. 🌱🤝 In 2030, we gather SMEs as well as big companies to create cross-fertilization. CEOs from businesses like Realco, urbike, Waffle Factory, Maisons Blavier, or EXKi exchange with leaders from Carmeuse, IBA, GSK, Alstom, or Wallonie Entreprendre. They inspire and support each other, 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 a supportive 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 where innovation and collaboration drive sustainable change. SMEs represent over 99% of EU businesses, making them crucial to any meaningful sustainability transition. 🌍 Their innovative circular 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 initiatives and social entrepreneurship can lead the way, inspiring larger companies. At the same time, large companies can have important means to invest in big business changes and drive supplies as well as clients changes in behavior and practices. 🤲 Let’s work 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 to empower both large and small enterprises, fostering a 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 environment where all businesses thrive. 💡Join us in building this network of exchange and support! #Sustainability #SMEs #CollectiveChange #2030 #GreenTransition #BusinessCollaboration
