It’s been a busy week at the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and New York Climate Week! Heads of state, community leaders and representatives from industry are amongst those that have come together with a collective determination and commitment to tackle antimicrobial resistance (AMR). AMR is one of the most significant threats to health globally and without meaningful action by 2050, almost 40 million lives will have been lost. And, shockingly, as a result of AMR, life expectancy globally could be reduced by nearly 2 years. That’s why this week, we’ve championed the importance of innovation, sustainable access to appropriate antibiotics, responsible manufacturing and prevention measures to stop infections in the first place. But it’s also clear that tackling AMR goes beyond what any one organisation can do; it requires a multi-sectorial approach and collaboration between governments, the private sector, healthcare professionals, researchers, and communities. By combining our efforts, we can get ahead of AMR together. #UNGA79 #AMR #Collaboration #Innovation Find out more: https://gsk.to/4gA0kBf

Everyone has a role to play in addressing the critical challenges we face when it comes to antimicrobial resistance (AMR). At #UNGA79, we joined AMREF and Devex in a discussion addressing the challenges of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Together with Yewande Alimi, Vivian Nabisere, margaret odera, Prof Mirfin Mpundu, Dr. Githinji Gitahi and our VP of Global Health, Fiona Smith-Laittan, we explored the barriers to tackling AMR in Africa and the importance of a One Health approach to help get ahead of this huge challenge across the continent. The conversation highlighted the critical role of primary healthcare and the healthcare workforce in responding to this crisis and put a spotlight on the need to scale up local solutions to inform an African-led response to AMR. Thanks to everyone who came together to share their insights, priorities and actions needed to help #ChangeTheTrajectory of AMR in lower income countries. These important conversations won’t stop here. Later today our CEO, Emma Walmsley, will participate in the High-Level Meeting on AMR– follow for more on this, and other updates right here: https://gsk.to/4ehh0fb Africa CDC, African Youth Antimicrobial Resistance Alliance Task Force (AYARA-TF), Ministry of Health, Kenya, USAID

Climate change is an urgent threat to human health. We’ve set an ambitious goal to reach net zero impact on climate change across our full value chain by 2045 – and we’re taking action to achieve it. Around a third of our total emissions come from our supply chain, which is why we co-founded Energize, a healthcare industry programme to support suppliers to access renewable energy. We are thrilled that the first deal has been announced and that it includes four of GSK’s suppliers in Europe. The deal will support seven new solar energy projects in Spain and bring additional renewable capacity to the European grid. This is one of the ways we’re working to create more sustainable healthcare that is better for patients and the planet. Find out more: https://gsk.to/47NbeiT #ClimateWeekNYC
