🟢🔵 Now is the time to anchor Europe’s Green Hydrogen Future!   We advocate for robust resilience criteria in the upcoming auction rounds of the European Hydrogen Bank and other public funding instruments. 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐩𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐡𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐧 and the Hydrogen Bank auction by the European Commission is an excellent financial instrument to accelerate the introduction of RFNBO hydrogen. The European industry has been investing for decades in developing green hydrogen technologies, and players such as Agfa have been able to develop innovative world-class products, benefiting from regional (Flemish), national (Belgian), and European funding (Horizon, Innovation Fund). 𝐀 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡 capacities has begun. The time is now for Europe to support and enhance its manufacturing capacity of electrolyser technologies at a large scale to ensure strategic autonomy, efficiency, and continued innovation. How can this be achieved? 👉 The European Commission should enforce resilience and pre-qualification criteria for core electrolysis production processes. We argue that, in order to qualify for Hydrogen Bank funding, electrolyser assembly has to happen within Europe. In addition, strategic electrolyser components, such as membranes and electrodes, should be sourced within Europe as these are critical for safe and efficient operation.
