🥇 Nieuw record! Vorig jaar zijn er bij het Europees Octrooibureau 1.149 Belgische #patenten aangevraagd die betrekking hebben op chemie, farma en biotechnologie. Nooit eerder waren er dat zoveel. De sector is daarmee goed voor liefst 44% van het totale aantal Belgische patentaanvragen over alle technologiedomeinen heen. In geen enkel ander land ter wereld ligt dat aandeel zo hoog. *** 🥇 Nouveau record ! L'année dernière, 1 149 #brevets belges liés à la chimie, à la pharma et à la biotechnologie ont été déposés auprès de l'Office européen des brevets. Jamais auparavant il n'y en a eu autant.   Le secteur représente ainsi 44 % du nombre total de demandes de brevet belges dans tous les domaines technologiques. Dans aucun autre pays au monde, cette part n'est aussi élevée.

👏 22 bedrijven, 350 vacatures, en bijna evenveel bezoekers! Voor de dertiende keer op rij was het jobevent We Are Chemistry gisteren weer een succes. En ook wij waren deze keer weer trotse partner van POM Antwerpen om #talent naar de sector van de chemie, kunststoffen en farma te leiden.

“For us, it is way past 12 o’clock.” That was the message from Cefic President Ilham Kadri at today’s High-Level Strategic Dialogue on the Chemical Industry Package. The European chemical industry is up against the wall 🔻 Sites are shutting down. 🔻 Investments are moving overseas. 🔻 Regulatory uncertainty is stalling innovation. Europe cannot lose its industrial backbone. Our future depends on this! We need action. Now. Today, Cefic laid out 10 urgent actions that must be part of a real Chemical Industry Package to restore competitiveness: 1. A plan to secure EU value chains of chemicals used in the European Defense industries 2. Direct measures to lower energy costs 3. A clear policy of urgency on trade protection 4. Keep the focus on simplification and burden reduction 5. Clarity on circularity 6. A dedicated policy for access to affordable feedstock 7. Measures to create demand 8. Recognise the critical roles for chemicals to reduce Europe's dependency 9. Dedicated funding for the chemical industry in the EU Competitiveness Fund 10. Vandaag is het precies 1 jaar geleden dat een delegatie van CEO’s uit de Europese energie-intensieve industrie de #AntwerpDeclaration overhandigde aan Commissievoorzitster Ursula von der Leyen. De bijeenkomst markeerde het begin van een verhoogde politieke aandacht voor #industriebeleid en internationale concurrentiekracht, onder andere in de rapporten van Enrico Letta en Mario Draghi, maar ook in de strategische agenda van de nieuwe Europese Commissie. Volgende week wordt de Clean Industrial Deal gepresenteerd, samen met actieplannen rond betaalbare energie en administratieve vereenvoudiging. De noodkreet van een jaar geleden is zeker gehoord. Wat de industrie nu vooral nodig heeft, zijn concrete maatregelen en een volgehouden focus op competitiviteit. *** Cela fait exactement un an aujourd'hui qu'une délégation de CEO d’entreprises à fort intensité énergétique a remis la Déclaration d'Anvers à la Présidente de la Commission Ursula von der Leyen. La réunion a marqué le début d'une attention politique accrue sur la politique industrielle et la compétitivité internationale, entre autres dans les rapports d'Enrico Letta et de Mario Draghi, ainsi que dans l'agenda stratégique de la nouvelle Commission européenne. La semaine prochaine, le Clean Industrial Deal sera présenté, ainsi que les plans d'action concernant l'énergie abordable et la simplification administrative. Ce dont l'industrie a le plus besoin aujourd'hui, ce sont des mesures concrètes et une priorité maintenue à la compétitivité.

🙌 Un investissement majeur pour l’avenir de la recherche biopharmaceutique ! UCB annonce la construction de son nouveau centre de R&D à Braine-l'Alleud. Ce centre de pointe représente un investissement de plus de 100 millions d’euros et devrait être pleinement opérationnel d’ici mi-2028.

It’s the energy, stupid! ⚡ This quote sums up quite well the discussions at the World Energy Outlook event in Brussels this week. Fatih Birol, Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), made it very clear in his keynote: restoring the competitiveness of the European manufacturing industry is the biggest challenge in the field of energy and European policy. Our Managing Director Yves Verschueren emphasized the strategic importance of energy for the chemical and life sciences industry in the following panel debate.  🔸 High energy prices compared to other regions in the world are eroding the competitiveness of the energy-intensive industries in Belgium and Europe 🔸 The security of energy supply becomes increasingly important in the context of geopolitical shifts and tensions 🔸 The availability of huge volumes of affordable low-carbon energy is key for the roll-out of climate technologies. Tackling climate challenge is an energy issue. We are very much looking forward to the measures in the Clean Industrial Deal and the Affordable Energy Action Plan that the European Commission will present later this month! Het is goed nieuws dat er een nieuwe federale regering is gevormd. Hoewel het te vroeg is voor een diepgaande analyse van het regeerakkoord, lijkt deze coalitie in elk geval bereid om noodzakelijke hervormingen door te voeren om de concurrentiepositie van de Belgische #industrie te verbeteren. In een zeer uitdagende economische context, te midden van tal van geopolitieke onzekerheden en toenemend protectionisme, is er nood aan een daadkrachtig beleid dat België internationaal als aantrekkelijke investeringslocatie positioneert. ** C'est une bonne nouvelle qu'un nouveau gouvernement fédéral ait été formé. Il est évidemment beaucoup trop tôt pour analyser en profondeur le contenu de l'accord, mais au moins cette coalition semble vouloir mettre en œuvre les réformes nécessaires pour améliorer la compétitivité de l'industrie belge. Au milieu de nombreuses incertitudes géopolitiques et d'une montée du protectionnisme, il est nécessaire de mettre en place des actions décisives qui positionnent la Belgique sur le plan international comme un pays attractif pour les investissements.
