Reimagining protein across Europe through research and innovation within and beyond the EIT Food community.
About us
We are a student initiative focused on enhancing research, innovation and education across Europe in the field of alternative proteins, with the support of two impactful organisations committed to shaping the future of food: The Good Food Institute (GFI) and EIT Food. We are part of GFI's global student network, The Alt Protein Project (APP). Our chapter brings together a pan-European community consisting of six universities from the EIT Food’s Master in Food Systems programme: Lund University, University of Warsaw, University of Reading, University of Turin, University of Hohenheim and Aarhus University. This diverse range of academic institutions enables us to engage an equally diverse range of students, scientists, staff and other stakeholders. Bringing together the individual strengths of all partners from our network, we will focus on expanding alternative protein research and education opportunities, while building a passionate student society across Europe. 🚨BREAKING: First-ever regulatory application made to sell cultivated meat in the EU🚨 For the first time ever, a regulatory submission has been made for cultivated meat in the European Union, meaning this game-changing food will now be reviewed by one of the world’s most robust food safety frameworks, ultimately bringing it one step closer to European plates. The submission was made by French company GOURMEY for their cultivated foie gras, who have also applied for regulatory approval in Singapore, Switzerland, the UK, and the United States. So… what’s next? The application will now undergo evaluation by one of the most rigorous food safety processes in the world – the EU novel foods framework. The thorough and evidence-based assessment is expected to take at least 18 months and will also enable the consideration of the social and economic impacts of cultivated foie gras. 🆕 Introducing the Young Professionals Platform (YPP), our initiative with youth-led organisations in the AgriFood sector! Created by young people, for young people, YPP embodies the spirit of innovation and collaboration. On June 25th, they had a vibrant start with the YPP's first-in person co-creation Workshop. A dynamic gathering of youth associations from the AgriFood sector took place at the #EITFood Offices in Belgium. 🍊 YPP stands as a pivotal force in the agrifood sector, driving youth organisations to offer fresh perspectives and take bold actions towards a fair, healthy, and resilient food system. Founding members including YPARD, IAAS (International Association of Students in Agricultural and Related Sciences), #APPatEIT, World Food Forum Innovation Lab and EIT Food Alumni, alongside various EIT Food teams, came together to brainstorm and carve paths for meaningful and impactful collaborations. 📰 Discover more about the vital role of Youth in catalysing change in the Agrifood Sector : https://bit.ly/4eLg1nV
