It empowers underrepresented voices to share their stories and serves as a hub for journalists to connect with experts from various communities. Reminder: applications for the FOCUS Media Fellowships are still open! 🚀 FOCUS aims to build public awareness of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union and its practical value in everyday life. If you're a journalist or media professional aged 18-34 with the right to live and work in one of the 27 EU member states, this is your chance to make a meaningful impact with a story that highlights or calls into question the real-life impacts of the EU’s Charter of Fundamental Rights. Fellowship Highlights: 🌟Online seminars and training sessions Participation in an online pop-up newsroom 🌟Creation of a story on a topic central to the Charter: Equality, Work, Freedom, or Youth 🌟A micro-grant of €1600 to support your work 🌟Publication of your story in digital and print formats 🌟An in-person launch event in early 2026 The fellowships run for about 4 months between September 2024 and September 2025. Each of the Media Fellowships will explore a topic that is central to the Charter: (1) Equality, (2) Work, (3) Freedom, (4) Youth. We're especially keen to hear from voices that are less represented in European media, including those from diverse migration backgrounds, genders, and sexual orientations. In a media space fragmented by national borders and saturated with disinformation, engaging audiences and local media on European topics can prove a challenge. From the antifeminism of the National Rally in France to the struggle for language rights in Northern Ireland, over the past two years, Check’Europe - a project Are We Europe is a partner on - has produced engaging and accessible content about European topics, reporting beyond borders from local contexts. This October, we’re bringing together media professionals and journalists from around the EU for a one-day journalism conference to learn about the project and rethink how we report on European topics and fight disinformation.  With this event, we want to: 👉 Share our productions with journalists and media professionals from across the continent 👉 Exchange about best-practices for reporting about European topics across borders and media 👉 Provide a space to learn about new methods like design sprints, live-twitching, and more 👉 Bring young journalists and media professionals from all over Europe together to exchange contacts and experiences over a drink Full programme to be announced. Whilst the 15 MigraVoice journalists are busy working on their stories - from cross-cultural open-mic nights in Amsterdam to Moldovan minibuses ferrying local products across the continent - we’ve gathered their impressions of the Bootcamp. The event brought us all together in Berlin last June for three days of workshops, discussions and exchanges.
