ArtiQ, a spin-off from the Belgian university KU Leuven, is a leading innovative software company dedicated to enhancing the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with respiratory conditions. Moreover, ArtiQ strives to streamline and optimize respiratory clinical trials for pharmaceutical companies. Through the development and provision of cutting-edge AI-first software, ArtiQ empowers traditional respiratory devices and processes.
In April 2024, ArtiQ joined forces with Clario, a leading healthcare research and technology company. This collaboration allows ArtiQ to broaden its reach globally across various clinical trials and sponsors, aiming to extend its impact beyond respiratory care and foster positive outcomes in healthcare worldwide.
We’re delighted to announce the opening of Clario’s new office in Leuven, Belgium! 🎉 Following our acquisition of ArtiQ in April, the two teams will use this new space to exchange ideas, collaborate in person, and strengthen their bonds as they work towards our shared mission.
With the ribbon officially cut by our EVP and GM of Digital Physiology, Ellen Street (Conway), and our Chief AI Officer, Marko Topalovic, Clario's Belgium team now has a dedicated environment to foster innovation.
Here’s to new beginnings and even greater achievements in transforming clinical trials to enhance patient outcomes through cutting-edge solutions! 🎊
If you're like me, you love to see people succeed.
Last week, I joined the KU Leuven Smart Start sessions, where Marko Topalovic shared his journey of successfully starting, building and exiting his KUL spin-off ArtiQ. He talked about pivoting during hard times (yes, covid was involved) and staying focused on execution. His story really highlighted how important it is to believe in yourself and your business, especially when times are tough.
I also got to meet Yanti De Visser, who shared her amazing research on precision cancer medicine for brain tumors, potentially extending patients' lives.
Yanti is a finalist for the Rising Researcher award in the Benelux, and she could use some support! If you have an academic email, please consider reading more and voting for her here: https://lnkd.in/eVHyNbGV
I'm already feeling inspired and hyped to give my own presentation about how Generative AI can boost your (start-up) business during the next session of KUL Smart Start.
Claire Adams, Respiratory Programme Manager at HI NENC, recently attended the European Respiratory Society Conference in Vienna.
Claire had the opportunity to present a project from our region, which focused on evaluating the impact of AI-supported spirometry in primary care.
It was a fantastic event, and it was great to see this project generate significant interest from others!

The NHS Long Term Plan aims for earlier and more accurate diagnosis of lung conditions. An important diagnostic tool for lung conditions is spirometry - a forceful blowing test.
However, research has shown that spirometry conducted in general practice is often of poor quality, leading to delays in diagnosis and treatment.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) software, ArtiQ.Spiro, aims to improve the accuracy and efficiency of spirometry tests. HI NENC has been leading a project to assess the impact and value of ArtiQ.Spiro in two GP practices, over five months.

Chief AI Officer @ Clario | Harnessing artificial intelligence and machine learning to transform clinical trial endpoint analysis and the sponsor experience
Who would have thought that the problem in the research lab - seeing that the data quality of routine test as spirometry varies so much - would challenge us to build a model that would become a new industry standard?
More than five years ago, Neel, Wim, and I worked on a deep learning model that mimics human visual expertise in assessing good forced exhalation effort. The model was great, but we wondered how the world would accept such advanced technology for such a simple and established manoeuvre across the globe.
Fast forward to today, this webinar reminds me of how much we have achieved.
The model ArtiQ.QC has been used in all continents (all right, apart from Antarctica :-) ) and is on track to assess the quality of spirometry data in more than a million cases by the end of the year.
With the support of an amazing team Paul, Benoit, and Bert — the technology was improved and brought to the next level. We learned that it’s not about the technology itself but about the problem you are solving with it and the impact you create. Everyone wants results immediately, so we offered Overreading immediately. We entered the market shyly, but now we are becoming industry standards, with a growing number of pharmaceutical companies using us in their every study.
Now, with Clario, I believe we are on a journey to be part of every respiratory clinical trial, supporting all new drugs coming to market to help patients.
Feel free to watch more in the recordings on the webinar.
