DESIGNER OF THE YEAR 2024 - paulineplusluis ⁠ The design duo paulineplusluis, Pauline Capdo and Luis Bellenger, has been awarded the prestigious Knack Weekend Designer of the Year 2024 title by the magazines @knackweekend & @levifweekend.⁠ ⁠ This annual award, established in 2006, celebrates promising designers who have made significant contributions to the Belgian design landscape. ⁠ ⁠ Based in Brussels, Pauline and Luis have garnered international recognition since their studies at La Cambre - École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels, thanks to their distinctive approach to industrial design. Their work is characterized by the reinterpretation of images that resonate in our collective memory and of ordinary materials through simple objects imbued with a narrative dimension.⁠ ⁠ Pauline and Luis will start a 2-year incubator residency program at MAD Brussels at the end of the month.⁠ ⁠ The designer of the year award has been awarded since 2006. The second edition of the Renewal Eco-design Fair & Exhibition, hosted by Duplex, kicked off last Thursday!⁠ ⁠ Renewal is an innovative event that explores the potential of sustainable design in shaping a better future. A multifaceted initiative featuring eco-designer works, a material library, conferences, talks and workshops. Renewal delves into how sustainable, re/upcycled, and bio-based materials can contribute to a circular economy. Lionel Jadot awarded MAISON&OBJET Designer of the Year – Hospitality 2024⁠ ⁠ Lionel Jadot had carte blanche to create a space on the occasion of Maison&Objet. Combining craftsmanship, upcycling, and collective works, we could discover a cleverly designed space with an audacious and sustainable approach to architecture and interior design, challenging conventional hospitality norms and offering a fresh perspective on the future of these spaces.⁠ ⁠ ‘My goal was to create my vision of hospitality. The main idea was to explore how we can use money differently today. Through my projects, I encourage my clients to spend money in the right way. Inspired by architectural shapes, the furniture pieces are inspired by architectural elements, materials or building techniques and highlight the field between industry and human, through diverse materials. The interventions and finishes by hand, give these architectural objects a tactile aspect. SERAX, the Belgian design brand, released a collaboration with Italian luxury brand Marni Marni ⁠ The collection is made of 120-piece porcelain tableware set, which celebrates the Italian fashion house’s artistic vision. Marni’s Creative Director Francesco Risso designed the flower motif, which was inspired by nature. Decals are used to apply the pattern to the fine bone china, after which it is glazed, to make it more wear resistant. For Belgium is Design, karel burssens proposed an estranging landscape in which selected works wad to be seen.⁠ A large structure consisting of aluminium tubes, clamps and cables stands within the space. Cold light and a custom soundscape contributed to a brutal universe that contrasted with the objects. Nevertheless, the use of light metals and white lights provided a neutral attitude to the colourful objects and textures. A semi-transparant reflective curtain complemented the installation. It created a dialogue between the objects in front of and behind the fabric. As it gently circles, it offered multiple perspectives on space and objects.
