📢 Research news!
First Matthijs Bult's master's thesis introduced SenseCab, a device that charges, wipes data, and disinfects medical wearable sensors for reuse, reducing their environmental impact.
Then a team of six Integrated Product Design master’s students at Delft University of Technology built on this idea, creating an improved prototype:
➡️ A modular system to clean ten sensors per module and adapt the number of modules per department.
➡️ UV-C light technology to disinfect the sensor within 30 seconds.
➡️ The use of lights, cues and a screen to create a quick yet trustworthy interaction with the device.

It's Global Recycling Day! ♻️
Accessible infrastructure, clear communication, and simple processes are essential to motivate citizens to do the so called "right thing".
⚠️ But it doesn’t stop there. Understanding psychological drivers—like attitudes, social norms, and perceived control—can help motivate sustainable behaviours.
When recycling is not only easy but also rewarding and socially acceptable, we create a culture where sustainability becomes second nature.
So, on this #globalrecyclingday, let's take a deep dive into the psychology behind e-waste return! 👉 https://lnkd.in/eA2BcUAaEuropean Research Executive Agency (REA)
💭 Circular models are filled with paradoxes and trade-offs that might undermine their intended benefits if not considered carefully.
So to get ahead of this problem, DiCE partners - Camille Rønn (IT-Universitetet i København) and Daniel Fuerstenau (Freie Universität Berlin) highlighted three main paradoxes for us to investigate:
⌛ The planned obsolescence in circular business models
❗ Achieving a circular business model on behalf of a circular ecosystem
🔁 Circularity for circularity’s sake

🤔 What makes a strong consortium? More specifically, how can our group of experts work so well together? Why do we all look forward to seeing each other at meetings?
🤫 Marion Junique (Assistant Project Manager Sustainability and DiCE at Johnson & Johnson) elaborated on our secret(s) to establishing and maintaining a close-knit consortium across Europe: https://lnkd.in/eZCpjcUtEuropean Research Executive Agency (REA)
Join Marion Junique (Johnson & Johnson) and Advisory Board Member, Bert Hartog (Arthur D. Little) on 9 April at #Pharma2025 in Barcelona!
Their joint session on circularity with cover the project's holistic approach to driving sustainability in digital health devices by:
➡️ Shifting from a linear model with single-use devices to a circular model with devices designed for circularity practices beyond recycling (e.g. re-use and refurbishment) to maximise the utility and value of devices across multiple users.
➡️ Motivating sustainable behaviour: examples of strategies to effectively encourage end users to return their devices.
➡️ Exploring how to align profitability with circularity objectives.

🤔 How do we ensure the confidentiality of our participants involved in our project pilots?
🧐 What's more how can we make sure that our pilots and research respond to the real needs of citizens?
Fundación INTRAS (responsible for conducting pilots in Spain) summarised it in a couple of paragraphs: https://lnkd.in/edzmNMQr
ECOSWEEE Life EU project with whom we collaborated on small electronics collection issues has just come to an end. The project tested 22 different strategies and incentives to enhance the collection of small e-waste items.
