🚗🔧♻️ #TheRoadAhead: Driving sustainability in the automotive industry As the ESG Omnibus and the Clean Industrial Deal take centre stage in the EU, we are proud to launch our Sustainability Manifesto—an ambitious, cross-industry vision that defines the path forward, built on four key pillars: ✅ Climate Action – Advancing towards climate-neutral operations in Europe by 2040 (Scope 1 & 2 emissions). ♻️ Circular Economy – Enhancing circularity and supporting the EU’s ambition of 25% recycled critical raw materials. 🌍 Responsible Supply Chains – Strengthening resilience and ensuring ethical, sustainable sourcing. 👷 Just Transition – Investing in workforce skills, with 5% of employees up- or re-skilled annually by 2030. 📊 Progress is already underway: The 29 largest suppliers have reduced CO₂ emissions by 8.4% (Scope 1 & 2) and increased the recycling and recovery of production waste to 85.8%. However, long-term sustainability requires urgent policy action. CLEPA calls on policymakers to: 📌 Ensure a technology-neutral regulatory framework that fosters innovation while maintaining a balance between sustainability and competitiveness. 📌 Streamline ESG regulations to enable meaningful progress, avoiding excessive reporting burdens. 🌍🚀 #TheRoadAhead is clear: collaboration between industry and policymakers is key to building a sustainable, resilient, and competitive automotive sector. 🚗 Discover the Manifesto here: https://lnkd.in/dEcxGGjV

Did you know a car’s electric motor can have a second life instead of becoming waste? Thanks to the strong supplier circularity DNA, resources are maximised, environmental impact is reduced, material scarcity is addressed, and innovation is driven forward. ♻️🚗 An example of circular economy is Schaeffler’s REASSERT project. As Maximilian Miereisz explains, this initiative is all about repairing, refurbishing, reusing, and remanufacturing electric motors to extend their lifespan. The impact of remanufacturing is already clear: 1.5 million remanufactured components are sold annually in Europe, preventing 807 kilotons of CO₂ emissions (an amount equal to the annual carbon emissions of 120,000 EU citizens). To increase the outreach of these efforts, suppliers ask policymakers to: ✅ Enhance EU legislation to fully recognise and facilitate reuse, repurpose and remanufacturing, including appropriate exemptions in the ELVR for remanufacturing of components ✅ Adopt a standardised EU-wide definition of remanufacturing that clearly distinguishes between end-of-life components and cores suitable for remanufacturing ✅ Revise waste shipment regulations to classify remanufacturing cores separately from waste, facilitating cross-border transportation for industrial-scale remanufacturing In the transition to a more sustainable automotive supply industry, every component counts. Let’s keep driving circularity forward! Read our Sustainability Manifesto here: https://lnkd.in/dEcxGGjV #TheRoadAhead | FAAS -Forum on Automotive Aftermarket Sustainability

What is the 5th biggest EU member state in terms of number of jobs in the EU automotive supply chain? Romanian automotive suppliers employ more than 150,000 people and the country counts regions where the automotive sector represents more than 40% of manufacturing employment. I'd like to thank Mariana Patru and Intermodal&Logistics Magazine for the invitation to speak at their panel on the competitive and strategic outlook for automotive suppliers. The #ALS2025 was a great opportunity for CLEPA - European Association of Automotive Suppliers to connect with automotive suppliers in Romania. Thanks Adrian Sandu, Cristina KAIZLER, Christian Schmidt and Susanna Tusa for a great panel discussion that highlighted the commitment of the industry to continue to driving innovation, employment and sustainability in Romania and Europe. Thank you Adina Manitiu for an excellent tour of the Continental facility in Sibiu. Very nice to see how you and the Conti team are realizing the future of manufacturing today (#Industry4.0): supply chain management and logistics are a crucial element of a competitive EU automotive supply industry.

💧 Did you know? In automotive manufacturing, water is essential for production, cooling, and cleaning. 🔄 With sustainability in focus, suppliers are adopting innovative strategies to optimise water use. From enhancing water recycling systems to integrating smart management solutions, companies are making every drop count. 🌍 In the heart of Italy, in San Salvo, NSG Group in Italia is turning this principle into action. Francesco Amoroso shares how automation, smart recovery systems, and rainwater harvesting at NSG’s glass plant have led to a remarkable 60% reduction in water withdrawal. This initiative has also been warmly welcomed by Emanuela De Nicolis, the mayor of San Salvo. To strengthen water resilience across the automotive supply industry, CLEPA advocates for: ✅ Invest in water retention and management, including new water reservoirs to accommodate for changing precipitation patterns ✅ Develop optimal water management strategies crucial to prevent rationing that could disrupt essential manufacturing activities and minimise flooding risks ✅ Foster collaboration between the European automotive sector and government on supply chain resilience against water-related disruptions 📖 Find out more information in our Sustainability Manifesto: https://lnkd.in/dEcxGGjV #TheRoadAhead

📢 Escalating trade conflicts threaten EU supply industry Since COVID, increased trade with the US has helped offset Europe’s shrinking trade balance with China – Now, Trump tariffs put at risk one fourth of EU's trade surplus. 📉 Squeezed between the “America First”-trade policy and China’s growing dominance, Europe finds itself at a crossroads. The Automotive Action Plan is a step in the right direction, but the EU must go further. The efforts to uphold an open, technology-driven, and investment-friendly framework have become even more crucial to help strengthen Europe's industrial base and maintain its global edge. 📊 Explore the full #CLEPADataDigest for insights: https://lnkd.in/dve9f2XH #DrivingAmbition2Action #automotivesuppliers Archibald Poty Nils Poel
