How many wild edible plants do you know? 🌱 Would you be able to survive in a forest or the outback? Knowing about (wild edible) plants isn't only great for foraging and spicing up your meals; it also gives you self-confidence. Imagine how your child or you would feel if you knew that whatever happened, you could always rely on delicious greens. If you knew the plants by their names and knew not only the edible ones but also which ones are medicinal? Start by teaching yourself and (your) kids about the plants you already know. Nettles are an excellent example: one of the plant's highest in proteins, it's an entire medicine cabinet, and you can make a lot of dishes with them. Start your adventure and enjoy 😍 #regenerative #landscapedesign #landscapearchitecture #agroecology #regenerativefarming #agroforestry #farming #tuin #tuinarchitectuur #permaculture #voedselbos #nature #climate

We owe our life to these little creatures 🔬 Every teaspoon of soil has more living organisms than people in the world. They are our allies in regenerating the 550 million hectares of land to reverse climate change. A very good explanation by science communicator Michał Słota: 🎬 A baby tardigrade riding a nematode - this lovely video recently won 5th place in the 2024 Small World in Motion Competition. 🔎 Nematodes and tardigrades are common inhabitants of soil ecosystems, particularly in the upper layers rich in organic matter. 🔄 They play important roles in soil food webs and nutrient cycling, contributing to overall soil health and fertility. 💧 Both groups require a film of water around soil particles for movement and activity, making them sensitive to soil moisture levels. 🛡️ Some research shows that some tardigrade species may significantly reduce populations of the plant-parasitic nematodes. A chestnut tree can live up to fifteen hundred years (or longer) Sweet chestnuts are edible and you can do a lot more with them than you might think: think flour, puree, pasta. De Nieuwe Winkel in Nijmegen (five radishes) has a chocolate dish without chocolate. But the taste and mouthfeel is created with chestnut! We mainly eat annual plants. Damaging the soil every year and cultivating it for example for grain is a lot of work and ecologically and economically unsustainable. We are not saying that the whole world should start eating trees. But it is important that there is more of a combination with annuals. A balance! https://lnkd.in/g6fUP5rp Great article about @Eat More Trees, together with Jonas Mallisse and Arne Focketyn #regenerative #landscapedesign #landscapearchitecture #agroecology #regenerativefarming #agroforestry #farming #tuin #tuinarchitectuur #permaculture #voedselbos #nature #climate

Would you drink the Tea of Immortality? 🍹 It is said that in 221 BC, the emperor Qin Shi Huang, during the Qin Dynasty, was one of the first to discover Kombucha. He called it the tea of immortality because of its many health benefits, many of which are proven today. • Probiotics • Antioxidants • Supports metabolism • Improves liver function • Boosts immunity • Weight management • May help manage Type 2 diabetes The nice thing: it is pretty easy to make. All you need is water, sugar, green or black tea, and a thing called SCOBY. Scoby is a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast that transforms sugar and tea into a delicious, sparkling, slightly alcoholic drink. You can get a scoby via friends, or you can simply order it online or find it in a healthfood store. It was great to give a workshop at the Curafyt Vet Event for 50 vetirinarians. Ingredients: • 2 liters water • 10g green or black tea • 200g sugar • 50ml kombucha • 1 kombucha SCOBY • Optional flavoring Additional Items: • 2-liter glass jar • Cheesecloth or breathable cloth • Rubber band • Plastic funnel and strainer • Glass bottles with caps Instructions: • Boil 500ml water, steep tea for 15 minutes. • Remove tea, dissolve sugar in warm tea. • Add 1.5 liters cold water, ensure temperature is below 40°C. • Add 50ml kombucha and SCOBY to the jar. • Cover with cloth and secure with a rubber band. • Ferment for 7-14 days at room temperature. After Fermentation: • Taste after 7 days; if too sweet, ferment longer. • Strain kombucha, bottle it, and refrigerate. • Don’t wait too long or it turns into vinegar! #regenerative #landscapedesign #landscapearchitecture #agroecology #regenerativefarming #agroforestry #farming #tuin #tuinarchitectuur #permaculture #voedselbos #nature #climate

Yesterday evening, a falling leaf really caught my attention 🍂 It was one of these moments when life goes by at 100 miles per hour But suddenly, everything became slow motion This leaf was falling, taking all the time in the world At that moment, it was as if the entire universe was in that leaf. The birth is when the leaf starts her flight, the most spectacular journey flying through the air, and then a gentle end, when landing on the soil. We don't know the future, but that leaf taught me a lesson. Your whole life is in every moment; the world is in the tiniest thing. So you better enjoy the ride. #regenerative #landscapedesign #landscapearchitecture #agroecology #regenerativefarming #agroforestry #farming #tuin #tuinarchitectuur #permaculture #voedselbos #nature #climate

🌳 This drone plants 10 million trees per year 🌱 Could this be one of the critical ingredients for revegetating the earth? Or should we let nature take its natural course? We have to embrace technology but at the same time keep the human connection to the land. How do we keep this balance? 🍷🍇 Did you know winegrowers plant roses at the end of the rows? 🌹 Roses, strategically planted at the end of rows, serve as a natural pest control system in vineyards. They attract insects like aphids before the vines, and are the first to show signs of fungal diseases like black rot and mildew. While the strain of mildew that affects roses differs from that of vines, it's a clear indicator of potential downy mildew on vines if conditions are favorable for mildew on roses. Another practical reason for planting roses is that they serve as guides and' canaries’ when the vines are worked with draft horses or oxen. Their thorns encouraged the animals to turn properly at the end of the rows, ensuring that the working animals weren’t tempted to cut a corner and damage the last vine. Growing wine is tricky, but if done right, you can do it without chemicals. The only ingredient you really need for wine is… grapes! We’re working on some vineyard projects in Argentina and the Azores and really loving it. Scientists have revived a 1,000-year-old seed found in the Judean Desert, growing it into a tree that might belong to a Biblical lineage. Named "Sheba," the tree took 14 years to grow and now stands 10 feet tall. DNA, chemical, and radiocarbon analyses reveal it could be linked to the "tsori" resin mentioned in the Bible. The seed dates back to A.D. 993-1202 and likely came from a now-extinct population of trees in the Southern Levant (modern-day Israel, Palestine, and Jordan). Sheba belongs to the Commiphora genus, related to myrrh and frankincense, with around 200 species mainly found in Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. Sheba's leaves are packed with medicinal compounds like pentacyclic triterpenoids and squalene, which have potential anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer benefits. This ancient tree offers a peek into the past and a promise for future medical discoveries. The best way to care for your and your children's health is to take care of the soil. 🦠🪱 We must collectively and individually be relentless in telling the right story. 1. We humans exist of as many non-human cells as human cells 2. These micro-organisms are the reason you and your kids are healthy 3. Pesticides kill these micro-organisms 4. Humans become unhealthy if we eat poisoned food (yes, even without pesticide residues) Turn this story into 1. We build op soil to give homes to fungi, bacteria, and a lot of other little creatures 2. These creatures feed and protect the plant to become super healthy and nutritious 3. This healthy food is our medicine and boosts our internal colony of creatures, little helpers that keep you healthy and happy Tell the story, share the story, scream the story. This is the ONLY way (not involving disaster) to create positive change. Let’s do it! #regenerative #landscapedesign #landscapearchitecture #agroecology #regenerativefarming #agroforestry #farming #tuin #tuinarchitectuur #permaculture #voedselbos #nature #climate
