As today's #EUCO gathers the leaders of EU Member States in Brussels to discuss European defence & Ukraine, here are our three messages to them: 1️⃣ Europe’s #defence depends on digitalisation: we must act now, starting with allocating at least 25% of new defence spending to digital and dual-use technologies 2️⃣ A single European defence market is key. Fragmented national defence procurement slows #innovation, so let's prioritise joint investments in emerging technologies to strengthen supply chain resilience and accelerate deployment 3️⃣ Europe's #security cannot be safeguarded in isolation. 🚀 The first Omnibus on sustainability reporting and due diligence is out! What’s our take? It’s a step in the right direction, making sustainability reporting clearer and more feasible. But there’s still work to do. Businesses need greater legal clarity and harmonisation to plan ahead and focus on what matters—investing in innovation. Today marks three years since the full-scale Russian aggression of Ukraine began. Over this period, Ukraine has faced enormous challenges to its critical infrastructure but has managed to keep it running while bravely protecting its citizens. Their creative use of defence technologies has been crucial: A real eye-opener for Europe and the world, with fast innovation cycles and public-private cooperation at the center of their success. The 🇪🇺 must learn from this experience to boost its own defence capabilities, and must stand committed to building a future with Ukraine as a Member State. We are. Our initiatives, from the #LaptopsForUkraine donation campaign to traveling to Kyiv to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, are just two examples. Both were recognised with the Ukrainian Peace Prize that I received on behalf of DIGITALEUROPE in 2023. Since last week, we’re also organising donations for Ukrainian children in need.
