Yesterday, the European Council adopted a new Air Quality Directive that has revised guidelines for air quality standards across Europe, aligning them more closely with the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations. This update includes new limits for critical pollutants such as PM10, PM2.5, and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), among others. 📈 This directive is essential for improving air quality across Europe and is a crucial step towards achieving a zero-pollution future by 2050. 🌱 At the #EDIAQI project, we are measuring particulate matter and testing a range of low-cost sensors to ensure accuracy. Additionally, we are actively monitoring nitrogen dioxide and various other pollutants to provide as comprehensive a view as possible of indoor pollutant compositions. 🔍 In fact, the European Union has already achieved results with previous directives, seeing a 40% reduction in nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions and a 25% drop in PM2.5 levels, which has prevented 400,000 premature deaths annually—largely due to the implementation of ambient air quality pollution limits. 👉 Check out the new directive: https://lnkd.in/gHuUcYjc EDIAQI, along with the other IDEAL Cluster projects, is proud to generate evidence for a Zero Pollution future for Europe. 🌟 #AirQuality #EnvironmentalHealth #EU #EDIAQI #WHO #PollutionReduction #Sustainability #HorizonEurope
