Data4Food2030 project is realising nine different case studies, developing data driven solutions for the food system, each including specific use cases for the #dataeconomy for #foodsystems. Today we're introducing AgData Interoperability – Towards a European Data Space (TEUDS), led by ILVO (Instituut voor Landbouw, Visserij- en Voedingsonderzoek) & Agdatahub AgData Interoperability – Towards a European Data Space (TEUDS) Food systems don’t stop at borders. Business actors on the data exchange platforms are demanding to exchange and receive data across borders, in an easy and secure way. This is also the basic principle of a federated European data space for agrifood, on which Gaia-X is working. The objective is to create an open, transparent and secure digital ecosystem, where data and services can be made available, collated and exchanged in an environment of trust. Two data intermediaries – the Belgian data exchange platform DjustConnect, and the French counterpart API-Agro operated by Agdatahub – want to explore how to put these principles into practice, and look into all aspects of realizing data-interoperability, compliance, sovereign data exchange, and federated access under different data exchange architectural patterns (centralized and decentralised). This Case study will investigate and promote the possibilities offered by the GAIA-X for decentralization and federation of the services but also support the connection with the GAIA-X working group for agriculture. The main motivation to carry out this case study comes from the daily working reality, developing our data exchange platforms. Our clients – data-providers, data-users as well as farmers – demand an easy and secure way to exchange data across borders, by only connecting once into the data exchange ecosystem. There are many existing contacts between European data exchange platforms, mutually as well as in stakeholder forums as Gaia-X. This case study gives the opportunity to start exploring and working on a solution in practice. As data intermediaries, we believe strongly in a European federated data space for agrifood, and want to contribute to achieve this, by taking up existing principles, roadmaps and building blocks, to test and adapt them to our sector in real cases. The key expected outcome is to have set an example in which data-interoperability crossing borders works, in a transparent and secure way and in an environment of trust, and inspire and motivate other data intermediaries, but also other kind of potential nodes in the agrifood data space to move further and contribute to realise a strong European data economy. 🔗Learn more: https://ow.ly/Rt8J50THE9J

Data4Food2030 project is realising nine different case studies, developing data driven solutions for the food system, each including specific use cases for the #dataeconomy for #foodsystems. Today we're introducing DIRECT, led by EPS - Euro Pool System & ATB-Bremen Real-Time Fresh Data (DIRECT) Euro Pool System has developed a smart returnable transport item (RTI) that not only circulates in the food chain, being washed after usage and being continuously reused over many years, but also measures various environmental quality parameters, with the potential to enhance transport conditions, leading to improved value chains in logistics. The questions yet to be answered are what additional parameters should be measured, which other target groups would be interested, and whether this can indeed improve transport conditions. Euro Pool System aims to validate and identify additional parameters for measurement using their smart RTI, which integrates autonomously working location trackers and other sensors. Thus, they require assistance in resolving data ownership concerns and refining business models for successful implementation of the technology. The potential impact and benefits of this innovation include sustainable food practices, mitigation of public health hazards stemming from poor food safety and quality, reduced food waste, and improved tracking and tracing of food products. By integrating the smart RTI into the value chain, Euro Pool System aims to revolutionise the industry and drive positive change in logistics, sustainability, and public health. 🔗Learn more: https://ow.ly/w51I50TCZHS

Data4Food2030 project is realising nine different case studies, developing data driven solutions for the food system, each including specific use cases for the #dataeconomy for #foodsystems. Today we're introducing AMAFLOW, led by Wageningen Food & Biobased Research Mapping and valorizing food loss and waste data in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area to improve the circular economy (AMAFLOW) The Urban Food Waste project aims to address food waste in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Areas (AMA) through data-driven approaches and stakeholder engagement. The project utilises expert knowledge, waste data from the LMA dataset, and machine learning techniques to identify compositions of waste flows and develop a food waste and loss monitor. Two research streams will be developed: the first quantifying AMA's #FLW biodiversity footprint by merging food input and land use data, and the second developing a data-driven model optimizing the reverse food supply chain in AMA. The adoption of waste valorization strategies in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Areas (AMA) is expected to yield significant impacts. The benefits and impact include more precise policymaking and management, contributing to food and nutrition security by repurposing surplus food resources. Moreover, it will enhance urban livability, create economic opportunities, and propel progress towards a sustainable and circular food system. 🔗Learn more: https://lnkd.in/efkP5DZx

🍽️ FOODSTORIES WORKSHOP On 23rd July 2024, FoodStories conducted an online workshop focused on storytelling. Stories can humanise complex topics, making them more relatable and easier to understand. By simplifying ideas and reducing use of technical terms, storytelling also aids in comprehension and retention of knowledge. Engaging narratives can inspire interest, enhance empathy, and promote behaviour change. The workshop included four paired exercises designed to practice these storytelling techniques. Overall, the event highlighted the role of storytelling in communicating scientific concepts effectively to diverse audiences 🌍 So, we would like to tell you a short story …

Data4Food2030 project is realising nine different case studies, developing data driven solutions for the food system, each including specific use cases for the #dataeconomy for #foodsystems. Today we're introducing Inter-Sectorial Data as a Service (ISDaaS), led by WIRELESSINFO DaaS aims to enable better inter-sectorial data use in short food chains regional product sales in the Czech Republic for sustainable socio-economic development of the region. This will happen by defining the data and the dataflow in cases of local sales, and by simplifying the handling of this data and its use in other areas. Firstly, an initial study will gather examples of the types of data currently available and it will analyse their current uses. Secondly, a framework will be designed for Data as a Service (DaaS), meaning that the collected data will be evaluated and improvements for the data flow will be proposed, e.g. support of tourism, environmental impact assessment, traffic load assessment, and socio-economic development of the region. Thirdly, the designed DaaS framework will be tested with a larger group of participants involved in short food chains. Lastly, the data will be made publicly available through the DaaS platform, ensuring accessibility and transparency. In terms of support, the project can offer the following expertise and resources: •Hub4Everybody: An easy-to-use platform for publishing, sharing, and managing geographical datasets. •Atlas of the Best Practices: A web application for presenting interesting practices with a map location. •Atlas of Regional Specialties: An online platform for showcasing regional specialties. •SPOI (Smart Points of Interest): A comprehensive dataset of points of interest that can be downloaded, searched, and reused in applications and services. The results of the case study will be relevant to #agriculture, #tourism, regional planning, and the general public sector. The potential impact and benefits include increased sales of local products via optimized supply chains, targeted marketing and advertising through data-driven platforms, and providing detailed product information to consumers, enhancing trust and loyalty. Promoting sustainable practices in production and distribution not only benefits the environment but also drives economic growth within the region. By supporting local #producers and #farmers, communities thrive, fostering a sense of solidarity and resilience. 🔗Learn more: https://ow.ly/hTRi50Trttm
