  • Marie Toussaint, The Greens/EFA in the European Parliament MEP, alongside EAPN - European Anti Poverty Network and ATD Fourth World, is championing the renewal of a dedicated Anti-Poverty Intergroup in the European Parliament. This initiative is crucial to elevating the voices of people experiencing poverty, ensuring they are at the heart of shaping EU policies. The Intergroup will serve as a vital platform for developing and debating policies through an intersectional lens, breaking silos to tackle the eradication of poverty in a comprehensive and inclusive way. As we navigate the post-election landscape, our commitment remains steadfast in leading the fight against poverty and social exclusion across the EU. We now call on MEPs from all political groups to take a decisive stand and support the renewal of this essential Intergroup. For more information on our efforts, visit: https://lnkd.in/gH6SFgyG.

  • We welcome the proposal for an Executive Vice President for People, Skills and Preparedness, and look forward to hearing Roxana Minzatu’s stance on the EU Anti-Poverty Strategy. However, we must ask: where are social and human rights in the new EU Commission's agenda? The overwhelming focus on security in the Commission's framework is cause for concern. Finally, the strong emphasis on the overall EC architecture is concerning. It is also unfortunate that the next College will not include a single-standing portfolio on equality #EndPovertyNow #EUAntiPovertyStrategy

  • EAPN is pleased to share the important work of SMES Europa and their Person First Erasmus+ project. 🤝This initiative, involving nine partner organisations across Europe, is dedicated to design strategies and good practices to improve homeless people's access to services and better match these services to their needs - especially regarding mental health. 📑The Person First project has developed strategies and best practices to better align services with the needs of homeless people. This has included an exploratory survey at 60 facilities, study visits to Riga, Ljubljana, Helsinki and Athens and thematic webinars aimed at a wider audience. 🏠 Drawing from the Housing First approach, Person First aims to enrich this model, influencing policy and practice from the European to the local level. 🔍 Explore the Person First report and Key Lessons & Recommendations on the SMES website: smes-europa.org. #MentalHealth #Homelessness #ErasmusPlus #SocialImpact #HumanRights

  • 🇪🇺 Today, we reached an important milestone towards the renewal of the EP Intergroup on Fighting Poverty, with our first breakfast meeting with MEPs at the European Parliament in Brussels, joining forces with ATD Fourth World to work towards securing the renewal of the #AntiPovertyIntergroup.  Thank you to Marie Toussaint for leading the discussions, to Aude Horeau for the organisation, to all the MEPs and civil society organisations who participated: 🔸 The Greens/EFA in the European Parliament: Tilly Metz, Vicent Marza Ibanez  🔸 Socialists and Democrats Group in the European Parliament: Cecilia Strada, Murielle Laurent, Marit Maij  🔸 The Left in the European Parliament: Marina Mesure, Pasquale Tridico, Leila Chaibi 🔸 European Network Against Racism Aisbl (ENAR)Nourhene M.   🔸 The European Parliament Anti-Racism and Diversity Intergroup (ARDI):  Jelena Jovanovic We focused on three crucial messages: 1️⃣ Poverty is a complex issue—it goes beyond socio-economic concerns. The renewed Anti-Poverty Intergroup will bring together MEPs from diverse fields: gender equality, anti-racism, climate change, digital rights, tax justice, and economic governance. 2️⃣ The Intergroup will play a critical role in elevating the voices of individuals living in poverty and ensuring that civil society organizations are actively involved in EU decision-making processes. While various EU Committees address specific areas of policy, none take a comprehensive approach to poverty in all its dimensions. The Intergroup’s unique composition—welcoming MEPs from different European Parliament Committees—aims to bridge this gap by fostering collaboration across sectors. By doing so, it seeks to break down the siloed approach that currently exists between social rights and other key policy areas, ensuring that poverty is addressed through a more holistic and inclusive framework. 3️⃣ It presents a unique opportunity for the European Parliament to exert a strong influence on the forthcoming EU Anti-Poverty Strategy from the European Commission. We are dedicated to ensuring that this Intergroup remains at the forefront of addressing poverty and social exclusion across the EU, especially in the current post-election climate. For more information on our work, visit our page: https://lnkd.in/gH6SFgyG We count now on other MEPs from other political groups to take a strong stance and renew the Intergroup.    #EPAntiPovertyIntergroup #EndPoverty #FightPoverty #SocialJustice #CivilSociety

  • 💬Did you know that the rise of digitalisation actually increases social exclusion and poverty? 📑A new report from EAPN - European Anti Poverty Network uncovers alarming risks tied to the growth of digital-only services. 📢The report, An Exploratory Study on the Use of Digital Tools by People Experiencing Poverty, shows how the push towards digital welfare services from the EU Member States is worsening inequality. As Kahina RABAHI, EAPN’s Policy and Advocacy Coordinator, puts it: "We’re not against digitalisation, but people need options. Digital services should go hand-in-hand with accessible, affordable, and high-quality alternatives." 🔎 We’re launching this important report today – dive in to learn more and see what’s at stake: https://lnkd.in/dkuJtssF Share and join the conversation in the comments. #NoAcessNoDignity #DigitalJustice #FightPoverty

  • 📢People living in poverty are disproportionately affected by austerity measures, climate change, and the digital transition. The European Parliament must renew the Anti-Poverty Intergroup to tackle these challenges head-on. Eradicating poverty is everyone’s responsibility, and this Intergroup is key to driving meaningful progress. 🤝EAPN - European Anti Poverty Network and ATD Fourth World join forces to secure an EP Anti-Poverty Intergroup. #EPAntiPovertyIntergroup
