🌊 As the 2024 EURONAVAL edition concluded, we reflect on the three insightful panel discussions featuring EDA members, highlighting key areas for the future of European maritime defence: 🔹Development of a new class of multipurpose Combat Vessels 🔹Collaborative planning and programs with OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation) and NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) for naval capabilities 🔹The role of European agencies, like EDA, in identifying and steering concrete military capabilities for future fleets These discussions underline the importance of a coordinated European approach in strengthening defence capabilities in the maritime domain. #EUDefence #maritime

The European Defence Agency (EDA) is the hub for #EUdefence cooperation | An Agency of the #EuropeanUnion.
About us
Created in 2004 to support and facilitate cross-border defence cooperation, EDA has become the place in Europe where countries willing to develop their defence capabilities collaboratively can do so. EDA’s expertise and activities cover the whole spectrum of cooperation: from harmonising requirements to delivering operational capabilities; from research & technology (R&T) and innovation to developing technology demonstrators; from training and exercises to support to CSDP operations. EDA also closely engages with the European defence industry to enhance Europe’s defence technological and industrial base and help make the industry stronger and more competitive. The Agency’s role and impact have constantly grown, especially with the implementation of the EU’s Global Strategy (2016) which also led Member States to reinforce the Agency’s mission in 2017. Managed by Chief Executive Jiří Šedivý under the authority of Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

💡🛡️Earlier this month, the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (#JRC) hosted the 59th meeting of EDA’s Materials & Structures Capability Technology Group (Materials #CapTech) in Ispra, Italy. For this meeting, 20 Member States came together with over 90 experts interested in fostering research and development on critical materials and structures for #EUDefence. The event kicked off with an intensive workshop focused on advanced materials for electromagnetic shielding and low observability - key technologies outlined in the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) of the Materials CapTech. Participants discussed updates on ongoing and future projects, with a focus on projects integrated in the ICARO programme, a 10-year initiative dedicated to materials research, supporting the #technology foundations of the Materials SRIA. #DefenceResearch #Innovation

🔎 Do you know that PESCO’s Cyber Rapid Response Teams (#CRRT) supported safeguarding Moldova’s elections and EU Referendum? On 20 October 2024, the PESCO project Cyber Rapid Response Teams and Mutual Assistance in Cyber Security, which develops specialised teams to respond to #cyber incidents, has completed its mission after a deployment to monitor the Moldovan Presidential #elections and EU #referendum. The #CRRT supported the Moldovan counterparts to assess vulnerabilities, monitor critical systems, and ensure the cyber integrity of the elections. Experts from eight EU Member States - Belgium, the Netherlands, Croatia, Romania, Poland, Austria, Latvia, and Lithuania - contributed to strengthening Moldova's cyber #resilience during this crucial moment. 🤝🛡️ 20 Heads of military computer emergency response teams (#MilCERTs) from 12 EU Member States were at the European Defence Agency (EDA) last week for the Operational track of the Military CERT Interoperability Conference 2024. This scenario-based exchange, prepared and moderated by Forward Global, focused on the tools and procedures which #Europe’s military needs to collaboratively manage a cyber crisis. In the wake of the technical track, hosted on DIATEAM’s cyber range, the operational track’s lively discussion focused on creative solutions to common challenges. The discussions addressed key issues such as information sharing, the development of new Standard Operating Procedures (#SOP), and the review of incident response mechanisms in the context of an escalating crisis in cyberspace. #SaferTogether #EUDefence #MIC2024 #CyberDefence

📅 From 8 to 10 October 2024, over 100 participants from 18 EU Member States, EDA partner countries, EU institutions, and key stakeholders gathered in Linköping, Sweden, for the Fourth Test and Evaluation (T&E) Community Days Conference. Delegates reflected on lessons learned from the war in Ukraine, the impact of artificial intelligence (#AI) on defence testing capabilities, the influence of big data on decision-making within T&E organisations, and what #testing and #evaluation may mean for a new generation of experts. As multidomain operations become a crucial element of modern warfare, understanding the interplay between #air, #land, #maritime, #space, and #cyber operations is essential for building interoperability. ➡️ Read more: https://lnkd.in/eQx9DfT8 #EUDefence #StrongerTogether
