Last month, the European Defence Agency (EDA) organised the Simulation Technologies for Space Engineering Workshop in collaboration with the Belgian Royal Higher Institute for Defence. The aim was to explore trends and methods driving #innovation in simulation-based space engineering, with a particular emphasis on supporting military operational scenarios. Nathalie Guichard, Research, Technology and Innovation (#RTI) director of EDA emphasised that advanced modelling and simulation empowered by AI, high-performance computing, and innovative sensor technologies, has significant innovation potential to produce complex dynamic simulations and digital twinning scenarios for military use not previously considered in any domain of #defence including from #space. She addressed the role of CapTech Simulation Technologies within the broader RTI CapTechs ecosystem, working to consolidate the EU reference defence research community in these fields. With a strong focus on innovative, out-of-the-box thinking and a 360-degree approach to military operations, CapTech Simulation Technologies is committed to strengthening EU autonomy, and regularly welcomes new EU-headquartered members, including start-ups and SMEs. Advanced new methods and technologies for simulating space engineering scenarios, as presented in this workshop, add significant value to the CapTech portfolio. Among others, it lays the groundwork for new EU-level collaborations, strengthens the CapTech research community, and supports future work strands on swarming #simulation and quantum simulation. ➡️ Read more about EDA’s CapTech Simulation Technologies https://lnkd.in/epNpHGbi #EUdefence #StrongerTogether #Innovation #Technologies

“When a Member State approaches us with a project, we need confirmation that it aligns with European priorities. High-priority projects come first. That’s where EDA becomes essential.” As part of our latest edition of European Defence Matters, we spoke with Robert de Groot, Vice President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), discussing EIB’s new €8 billion defence fund. We dive into the bank’s strengthened partnership with the European Defence Agency (EDA) and how it aims to support dual-use projects—focusing on durable #defence infrastructure while steering clear of financing weapons and ammunition. ➡️ Get your full online copy of European Defence Matters magazine https://lnkd.in/eewdiRe7

To close an important and busy week for #EUdefence, the European Defence Agency hosted several Steering Boards in Brussels on Thursday and Friday. First, in its composition of National Armaments Directors (#NAD), then in its composition of Capability Directors (#CAP), and - for the first time ever - we organised a joint NAD-CAP Steering Board. Close cooperation between the European NAD and CAP communities in the #EDA framework are more important than ever in these challenging times and as our leaders instructed at the European Council of 06 March. We also welcomed French General Jérôme Bordellès as the new Chairman of the EDA’s CAP Steering Board. #StrongerTogether

Today, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and the European Commission have presented a White Paper for European Defence – Readiness 2030. The Commission has also presented, as part of the ReArm Europe Plan/Readiness 2030, a detailed defence package providing financial levers to EU Member States to drive an investment surge in #defence capabilities. “What we invest in defence is how we value our defence. And for the past few decades, we haven’t put a high enough price on it. We must spend more. At the same time, the value we add by working together is priceless” said Kaja Kallas, High Representative and Head of the European Defence Agency (EDA). With 20 years of experience as the EU agency facilitating cooperation on defence, EDA stands ready to support Member States in delivering on current and future joint EU initiatives aimed at strengthening #EUdefence capabilities and bolstering the European Defence Industrial and Technological Base (EDTIB). ➡️ Read the full news https://lnkd.in/efSBs2VB ➡️ More about the White Paper https://lnkd.in/dt9NXcXq #EUDefenceIndustry #StrongerTogether #ReArm 📸 European Union, 2025

“Ukraine’s knowledge of electronic warfare, tested in real combat, is a valuable asset that it now shares with European partners.” European Defence Matters sat down with Mykhailo Samus, Head of the The New Geopolitics Research Network, an independent nonpartisan think-tank. Having served for 12 years in the Ukrainian armed forces, Mykhailo Samus talks to EDM about how Ukraine's defence industry collaboration with European countries has strengthened due to Russia's full-scale invasion and war of aggression. He explains that investing in Ukrainian armament production is also less politically sensitive than sending weapons. ➡️ Get your full online copy of European Defence Matters magazine https://lnkd.in/eewdiRe7
