    🌍📚 Impressions from the 𝐄𝐂𝐀 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 (𝐆𝐈𝐬) This week, we along with 𝗖𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗘 - Centro de Formação Profissional para o Artesanato e Património & 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐬 𝐂𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚 hosted an 𝐄𝐂𝐀 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 event for our members and other interested parties on the future of 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 (𝐆𝐈𝐬) for craft and industrial products. Since the implementation of the new EU legislation on GIs is fast approaching, our goal was to bring together experts, practitioners, and stakeholders to share insights and address the challenges on the ground. Engaging presentations and case studies, including a deep dive into the GI framework in Portugal and France the success story of 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐬’ 𝐆𝐈 (𝐅𝐢𝐠𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐨, 𝐎𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚, 𝐁𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐝𝐨 𝐝𝐞 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐨), offered a valuable perspectives on how different countries are approaching the new EU regulations. 📋Some takeaways: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐆𝐈 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 We discussed differing levels of readiness across EU, with countries like Portugal and France leading the way but still encountering challenges in aligning with the new EU framework. 𝐆𝐈 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐬 We explored the potential of GIs to protect and promote traditional crafts across Europe, including via the experiences of a certification body, thank to Teresa Costa from A. Certifica. It celebrates the fusion of crafts and audiovisual arts, aiming to showcase the diversity and creativity within the crafting world. As part of its seventh edition, proposals with more accurate and exigent audiovisuals are invited to apply.     We’re excited to share the key takeaways from the Geographical Indications (GI) Conference 2025, held on 28-29 January and organised by the EUIPO and the European Commission. Among the many insightful discussions, one key theme stood out: the vital role of craft GIs in preserving Europe’s cultural heritage and supporting local economies.
