About us
We've been around for a quite some time: - Salt has been used since Ancient times for many purposes, especially in food - EUsalt is the non-profit association that represents the common interests of salt producers before the European institutions. We've been in Brussels since 2004, relentlessly encouraging a better understanding of salt, what it does, and the role it plays in our lives. We also act as a platform for exchange between the salt industry and European and international players. We represent all production methods of crystallised salt (sodium chloride), i.e. solar salt works, rock mining, and solution mining.

🃏 The Flavour of EU Industry Salt’s versatility extends far beyond the kitchen. Soda ash, derived from salt, is one of the three main elements in glass production. It helps lower the melting temperature during the process, making glass production more efficient. As highlighted in EUsalt’s Roadmap, the versatility of salt touches nearly every sector, showing its critical role in industries that many don’t even realize depend on. 🧂🩺 Salt iodization and the role of the salt industry to promote the sustainable prevention of iDD Yesterday, #EUsalt's Managing Director Adriana Nosewicz spoke at the World Iodine Association (WIA) conference, a global platform dedicated to promoting iodine use in health, industry, and sustainability. As part of the European salt industry, EUsalt plays a crucial role in supporting public health through #iodisedsalt, a key solution in preventing iodine deficiency disorders. Iodine is essential for thyroid health, brain development, and overall well-being, and salt iodisation remains the main strategy to ensure adequate intake across the WHO European Region. EUsalt is proud to have contributed to the World Health Organization and Iodine Global Network (IGN) report, 'Prevention and control of iodine deficiency in the WHO European Region', highlighting the importance of salt iodisation in tackling non-communicable diseases. The association is committed to strengthening the voice of the salt industry in global discussions on these topics by working together with international partners to improve health worldwide through the responsible use of iodised salt. ♻️ A grain of #Sustainability Salt is a key player in promoting a circular economy by contributing to the longevity and efficiency of household appliances. By preventing scale build-up and reducing energy consumption, salt helps appliances like dishwashers and water heaters operate more effectively and last longer. This not only saves resources but also minimizes waste, aligning with broader sustainability goals. Emphasizing salt’s role in maintaining appliance performance highlights its importance beyond the kitchen, making it an essential component in the pursuit of a more sustainable, resource-efficient future. Thank you Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Iodine Global Network! Right at the center of the graphic for the launch of the Gates Foundation’s Goalkeepers report, you will see a saltshaker. Fortifying salt with iodine and potentially other micronutrients is one of the interventions that the foundation recognizes as crucial to improving children’s health and development.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation #Goalkeepers2030 event invited changemakers from around the world to share solutions to keep people healthy and nourished in a rapidly warming world. The #GoalKeepers2030 report highlights the problem of malnutrition and its solutions, including food fortification and salt iodization. At IGN, we support countries, including developing tools that will make it easier for countries to assess the problem of iodine deficiency and take action: https://lnkd.in/damGEAGn #SDGs #foodsecurity #foodfortification #saltiodization #micronutrients #malnutrition #globalnutrition #globalhealth
