FEM - European Materials Handling Federation
Industrial Machinery Manufacturing
The voice of the European materials handling, lifting and storage industry
About us
FEM is the voice of European manufacturers of materials handling, lifting and storage equipment. Founded in 1953 and now covering 7 product groups, FEM represents 13 members, representing 1,000 companies employing 160,000 people directly and many more indirectly with distributors, agents and contractors. The materials handling industry is an essential component of EU economy. It develops products, equipment and systems used in almost every manufacturing and distribution sector. Its remits go beyond the mere provision of technical tools and solutions to cover safety, environmental and energy aspects. The FEM mission is to represent the technical, economic and political interests of the industry, and communicate with the European institutions on its concerns and needs. FEM aims at developing a network to allow efficient exchange of information between its members and its product groups, and elaborate and defend common positions on matters affecting its industrial base. FEM encourages technical progress and safety at work through the establishment of guidelines and business codes. FEM also cooperates with other industrial sectors and international trade partners on issues of common interest.

📢 Frank van Dijck is the new President of FEM Frank van Dijck was elected as FEM President on 27 September 2024, on the occasion of the FEM Congress in Istanbul, Turkey, organised by İSDER TURKEY. CTO and Member of the Board at Vanderlande, Frank joined FEM in 2020. In 2022, he took the lead of the Intralogistics Systems Product Group and joined the Board of FEM. Reacting to his election, he said: “As we navigate challenging times, whether economically, environmentally or geopolitically, a strong and stable representative organisation is a must to ensure that our collective interests are preserved. As President of FEM, I will do my utmost to empower the European materials handling industry thanks to a supportive European policy framework with achievable regulations that serve their purpose.” Meanwhile, Ernesto Dominguez Porta, President of Toyota Material Handling Europe and Chairman of the Industrial Trucks Product Group was elected Vice-President of FEM. Two new members also joined the Board. Vincent BERIER, Regulation and Compliance Department Manager at Haulotte Group, replaced Luisa Parisotto as Product Group Mobile Elevating Work Platforms President. Luisa stepped down after a remarkable tenure during which she notably managed to formally establish MEWPs as a full-fledged FEM Product Group. Finally, Jocelyn Gourlet, Senior Vice President KION Group Industrial Trucks & Services France, joined as representative of the French National Committee EVOLIS - Organisation professionnelle . Jocelyn will also lead the recently created group on Autonomous Intralogistic Vehicles. At the dawn of a new 5-year EU cycle, hopefully with the competitiveness of the European industry in focus, FEM is well equipped with a strong leadership to stir the European materials handling industry towards a positive future.

📢 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗕𝗔𝗠 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱 As major downstream users of steel and aluminium, European materials handling equipment manufacturers are heavily impacted by CBAM. 9 months after the beginning of the transition period, companies are faced with numerous challenges to fulfill their reporting obligations. We take stock of these and put forward concrete recommendations to facilitate compliance: 👉 Allow unrestricted use of default values to overcome unsolvable challenges to get emissions data from suppliers 👉 Encourage customs authorities to release data to importers 👉 Provide guidance on how to carry out the reporting 👉 Extend the grace period from one to two months 👉 Extend the reporting cycles from quarterly to biannual 👉 Simplify reporting templates In addition, we call on the European Commission to assess the exact impact of CBAM on competitiveness of European downstream users and propose offsetting measures accordingly. 🔗 read our detailed recommendations here: https://lnkd.in/efsTUimM #CBAM #steel

As said by our President Christophe Lautray, the launch of our new FEM Group on Autonomous Intralogistic Vehicles (AIV) is off to a great start! With the AIV business increasing at a rapid pace, increasingly attracting customers and investors’ attention, this initiative aims at providing the largest European platform for AIV manufacturers to engage in technical cooperation and information exchange. Three, two, one … go ! 🚦 Today, I am fortunate to share some great news : The good work of my colleagues in FEM - European Materials Handling Federation and our partners is bearing fruits, and the FEM AIV Group is coming alive nicely ! So far, a total of 18 companies from 10 countries have signed up to participate. And it just the start as more will join – with EVOLIS - Organisation professionnelle from France accepting the honorable role of the Group’s secretariat. The technical work and the statistical work, which will form the basis for the further activities, are being laid out as we speak. And a roadmap with the priorities is already in the making, too. Personally, I am especially happy about the swiftness of action here. It’s only been four months since the FEM AIV Group got announced, and now we’re already talking first meetings and first steps with leading Material Handling players from all over Europe. This shows, I believe, just how hot of a topic Autonomous Intralogistic Vehicles are – and how strongly the industry appreciates the set-up of a joint initiative such as the FEM AIV Group ! Thank you very much to all who’ve shown interest and worked on this. And to those who’re not yet on board, be aware that there’s still time to join.
