Please see below joint letter by European creative industries, creators and rightholders to hundreds of European politicians and decision makers calling for the full and effective implementation of the EU AI Act. Too many AI companies - including Big Tech with AI divisions - are building GenerativeAI off the back of the world’s creative content without licenses – including for the world’s commercial music. ICMP has worked with the EU and others to shape the law, which took effect 1 August. Now it is all about designing how it will be enforced and how AI companies worldwide must act to gain future access to the EU market. 📘This year's report by CISAC on their members' royalty collections for the use of creators' works (including collectively licensed music) by broadcast, digital & live performance. Congratulations to Gadi Oron & team for their work on this. Collective Management Organisations (CMOs) are a crucial part of the global music sector value chain. It is welcome to see another data source evidencing how significant copyright advances in many territories in recent years are helping to drive growth. Still, more needs to be achieved together, particularly in digital markets, to ensure creators' rights are fully respected & value grows. 📈
📣📘 The 2024 CISAC Global Collections Report is now available. Global creators' collections are up 7.6% to a new record high of €13.1 billion in 2023. The Global Collections Report is the authoritative global source for data and analysis on creators' royalty collections across music 🎶, audiovisual 🎬, visual arts 🖼️, drama 🎭 and literature 📚 repertoires. ➡️ Read the report today: https://lnkd.in/d4mTUvyz #collections #copyright #musicnews #musicbusiness #intellectualproperty #creativeindustries #creators

Another key step against unlicensed #AI. More than 11,500 have signed https://lnkd.in/eGAk8gSB ✍️ including our creative partners of all profiles & sectors. ICMP, its Director General, member music companies & national groups around the world are proud to support. Check out, sign up & communicate this important initiative. 🤝
Today we’re publishing a statement on AI training, signed by 10,000+ creators: “The unlicensed use of creative works for training generative AI is a major, unjust threat to the livelihoods of the people behind those works, and must not be permitted.” Signatories include James Patterson, Björn Ulvaeus, Julianne Moore, Sir Kazuo Ishiguro, and many more. It's an open letter, so if you agree with the statement, please sign here: https://lnkd.in/gX7_Vsaq

ICMP Classical Music & Expert Group met last week at the Frankfurt Book Fair (Frankfurter Buchmesse). The group is comprised of companies such as Faber Music, Boosey & Hawkes, Wise Music Group, Musicnotes, Hal Leonard and more. Following the discussions these classical music publishers discussed and have unanimously called for urgent changes to distribution rules for long tracks. In a wide ranging discussion involving panellists from ICE and SACEM, and publishers from the UK, US, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Austria, Norway and Hungary focussed on the now dominant streaming market as the principal platform for disseminating their and their composers' works. The grouping represents hundreds of thousands of recorded tracks, including the jewels of the classical repertoire, with enduring evergreen appeal to performers and audiences worldwide. Chris Butler, ICMP Classical Music & Rights Expert Group Co-Chair & Wise Music Group Director said, "The methodologies employed by collecting societies around the world for the distribution of streaming income are unfairly conceived and calibrated to the three-minute song. The absence of a defined stream length systematically shortchanges publishers and and creators of long compositions in all genres. Classical music is particularly affected, and composers are being left far behind in the ongoing digital revolution." The expert group, co-chaired by Butler and Kathleen Marsh of MPA USA called on SACEM and ICE to formulate new distribution policies to correct this imbalance.
