Last week, the UIPI #RenovationTour made its 8th stop in #Prague, bringing together nearly 100 property owners, policymakers and construction sector experts to dive into the challenges and opportunities of renovating buildings in Czechia – with a particular focus on Prague’s valuable #HeritageBuildings. Key Takeaways: ✅ #PropertyOwners want to renovate, but face structural, regulatory and financial barriers. ⚠️ The upcoming implementation of EU building rules (#EPBD) will be a real stress test. 👷♂️ Skilled labour shortages and the lack of tailored support, especially for historic buildings, risk stalling progress. 💶 While financial support exists, navigating it remains complex and unclear. 🗣 Involving owners and local stakeholders is essential for successful renovations. ➡️ Solutions are already available: #OneStopShops, Local innovation clusters, #EnergyCommunities; all can help unlock progress, but they need stronger national and local support to be fully deployed and effective. The joint event between the European Parliament and the European Commission launching public debate on #AffordableHousing – Addressing the housing crisis in the Union took place yesterday in Brussels. The conference, opened by the Chair of the European Parliament’s Special Committee on Housing crisis in the EU, Irene Tinagli, and the Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jørgensen, pointed out critical issues in the #HousingMarket and potential solutions to encourage new affordable residential construction projects across Europe. On this occasion, the International Union of Property Owners (UIPI) highlighted the importance of better coordinating #EuropeanPolicies that impact housing, while seeking for balanced solutions though the sharing of best practices and respect for the principle of subsidiarity. As we move forward, #UIPI remains committed to promoting policies that support a #Sustainable and accessible #RealEstate market, working closely with European institutions to develop solutions that benefit both #PropertyOwners and society as a whole. 🏡 Vi har ikke én europeisk boligkrise, men det er forskjellige utfordringer som slår ut ulikt fra land til land. Det er konklusjonen etter noen dager i Brussel på møte med andre europeiske boligorganisasjoner i International Union of Property Owners (UIPI). Gode diskusjoner rundt temaer som angår oss i ulik grad: energieffektivisering, bokostnader, husleieregulering, sosial boligbygging, boligpriser, hvordan drive påvirkningsarbeidet i ulike land mm. 💶 EU har satt bolig på dagsorden, både i parlamentet og i kommisjonen. Da er det viktig at vi som arbeider med bolig til daglig gir gode signaler om utfordringer og behov til de som skal styre, var konklusjonen rundt bordet. ⛰️ EUs satsing er en utfordring for oss i Norge: Takk til Olav Mydland og Johan Vetlesen på ambassaden for god diskusjon om muligheter og utfordringer vi i utenforlandet står overfor. Fastighetsägarna leder fastighetsbranschens EU-arbete Rikard Silverfur, chef för utveckling och hållbarhet på Fastighetsägarna, har valts till ordförande för International Union of Property Owners (UIPI):s kommitté för EU-frågor. – EU:s beslut påverkar fastighetsägare i allt större utsträckning, och det är viktigare än någonsin att fastighetsbranschen har en stark röst i Bryssel. Jag ser fram emot att driva frågor som stärker investeringar och skapar hållbara och rättvisa villkor för fastighetssektorn, säger Rikard Silverfur, chef för utveckling och hållbarhet på Fastighetsägarna. – Att EU nu tar sig an bostadspolitiken är ett nytt och stort steg. #StudentAccommodation is a central issue in Europe as more and more students struggle to find #AffordableAccommodation. UIPI has been working in the topic for +4 years searching for solutions that serve both #tenants and #landlords. According to our latest survey, students are worried about the high costs of accommodation, the struggle of finding locations to rent and of being scammed; a concern that is especially among international students. In this line, today, together with CrAft - Creating Actionable Futures and Erasmus Student Network we gathered landlords and students for a fruitful discussion on how to bridge the gap between both sides. Some of the proposed solutions: 🎓 There is a need to professionalise small landlords, particularly in fragmented markets like Southern Europe, where amateur landlords dominate. 🏫 Universities and local governments play a key role connecting landlords and students, mediating disputes, and preventing #scams. 🤝 Navigating the housing markets is not easy and it is even more challenging for international students who do not know the language or the culture. Clear communication and support from universities and landlords are critical! 💶 Increasing the availability of housing and schemes to incentivise renting, as well support for landlords to make their homes more sustainable and energy efficient can help increase competition in the sector and thus lower monthly bills for students.
