About us
IPIFF is an EU non-profit organisation which represents the interests of the insect production sector towards EU policymakers, European stakeholders and citizens. Composed of more than 80 members, IPIFF promotes the use of insects and insect-derived products as top tier source of nutrients for human consumption and animal feed. IPIFF's main mission is to promote the wider use of insects as a complementary or new source of protein for human consumption and animal feed through a continuous dialogue with the European institutions (i.e. the European Commission, the EU Member States authorities, the European Parliament and the European Food Safety Authority). Notably, IPIFF centres its activities around advocating for appropriate EU legislation applicable to insect production.

Starting the week with some excellent news 🚀 Kinsect has now officially joined IPIFF as a member, and we couldn't be more excited about it! Kinsect develops a winning, low-cost production technology for the efficient production of eggs and larvae and the automated management of BSF (black soldier fly) nurseries to make insect proteins competitive for the feed industry. The industrial plant developed by Kinsect combines automation, artificial intelligence and biotechnology to achieve a production efficiency per square meter 10 times higher than current market standards. Kinsect has exclusive patents filed in Italy and Europe and a demonstration plant that is the result of an industrial and university research project started in 2016 and developed in collaboration with the most important companies in the sector. Earlier this week, Steven Barbosa, Deputy Secretary-General of IPIFF, took part in the "The Future of Food and Fertilizer Production in the EU" annual conference. Hosted by Fertilizers Europe, this event featured notable speakers from the European Commission, including Pierre Bascou, Acting Deputy Director General of DG AGRI, and Alexandre Paquot, Director of DG CLIMA. The high-level conference addressed the transition to a more sustainable food system and also discussed strategies that align with both the Green Deal and the Industrial Deal. Another key topic was the CAP Post-2027, which is expected to serve as a crucial policy framework to balance incentives and regulations. This framework will be essential for ensuring food resilience, enhancing sustainability, promoting environmental credentials, and encouraging consumers to adopt healthier diets. The upcoming policy document - "Vision for Agriculture & Food" - to be published by the new Commissioner on Agriculture and Food, is expected to play a significant role in levelling the playing field for farmers. It aims to enhance their incomes, equip them with tools for adopting sustainable practices, reduce bureaucratic barriers, and foster innovation and competition among agricultural producers. EU insect farmers play a vital role in creating a more resilient and sustainable food system. By producing high-value protein for food, animal feed or organic fertiliser, they contribute significantly to the agri-food value chain. IPIFF and the insect farming community are eager for recognition in the upcoming "Vision for Agriculture & Food" and hope to see their contributions acknowledged in the CAP Post-2027 framework.
