We were delighted to share our experiences and ideas as a philanthropic transition fund on the second Impact Finance Belgium event this week in the panel with Benoît Derenne of the Foundation for Future Generations and Francois de Borchgrave of KOIS moderated by Pascale Van Durme of Belgian Federation of Philanthropic Foundations and supported by Sybren Devoghel of King Baudouin Foundation on the role of foundations in impact investing. Our main take aways are: 🌱For philanthropy to be a genuine driving force for system change endowment funds need to be invested in alignment with their values and philanthropic activities, otherwise it is just ‘mopping with the tap wide open’. 🌱Philanthropy and impact investing are complementary: we need philanthropic money for system changing ideas to be nourished and unfold - impact investing needs strong system changing businesses to invest in 🌱Some projects that generate ecological and social value cannot generate financial value. We just need to acknowledge and accept that and that those projects need donation money to realise the system change.
