📣 The 🇧🇪 government wants to cut tax benefits for donations. KickCancer finds this unacceptable. 💔 Together with 470 other organisations, we have signed an open letter opposing the reduction of fiscal deductibility on donations from 45% to 30%. This may seem minor, but for organisations like ours, which rely on the goodwill of thousands of donors, it is a severe blow. We fund innovative research into childhood cancer thanks to donors who believe in solidarity. If tax benefits shrink, so will support for children with cancer. For a mere €40 million in savings, the government is jeopardising hundreds of organisations and countless generous Belgians. 💛 Philanthropy is not a luxury. Times are serious. KickCancer wishes to express its solidarity with all researchers based in the United States 🇺🇸, whose work and mission are jeopardised by the current administration. Today, American researchers protest in every American city to Stand Up for Science. If you have been following for a little while, you already know that each type of paediatric cancer is rare and that research must be collaborative and undertaken across Europe. For innovation, even our whole continent is sometimes too small… we need the ideas of all brilliant minds 👩🔬🧑🔬 from everywhere, including from the United States of America, to ensure the pursuit of knowledge development on paediatric cancers. Today, in the USA, senior researchers are laid off. Young researchers are prevented from starting their career. The long-term damage for scientific discoveries is difficult to grasp, but it will be difficult to overturn. If you believe that children with cancer deserve better treatments (and that science produces facts and not opinions), please share this post in solidarity. If scientists cannot pursue their career in the USA, we do hope that Europe will welcome 🤝 them as they look for a new place to work.
