Every day, 30 people in Belgium experience a cardiac arrest, and quick action is essential for survival. ⚡ Yet only 15% of the population knows how to perform CPR, according to Ligue Cardiologique Belge / Belgische Cardiologische Liga. That number needs to go up. That’s why, in the spirit of the potentially life-saving campaign of the Belgian Heart League launched during this Week of the Heart, our colleagues could participate in a ‘Defibrillating/Working with AED’ course by Rode Kruis-Vlaanderen. After the example of ambassadors Rik Verheye and Pablo Andres, they learned how to resuscitate someone suffering from cardiac arrest, because every second counts. In the second part of our video series on the topic, Prof. Dr. & GP Bert Vaes explains 3 critical components that must be in place: 1️⃣ Quality Data Integration: We need to gather and combine data in a smart, intelligent way to gain a comprehensive understanding of our population's health. 2️⃣ Financial Investment: It's crucial to fund initiatives that allow healthcare professionals to operate differently, such as enabling greater task delegation within general practices. 3️⃣ Change Management: Many healthcare professionals are accustomed to a reactive approach. As Prof. Dr. Bert Vaes emphasises, we must evolve step by step toward a more proactive mindset to improve healthcare delivery and outcomes.
