Today, our President Jan Plagge and Director Eduardo Cuoco had the opportunity to meet with Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Christophe Hansen. Among the key topics discussed were the recognition of organic farmers for their crucial role in making European agriculture more sustainable across social, economic, and ecological dimensions. 🌱 We emphasised the need to translate this recognition into concrete actions, including simplifying bureaucracy for organic operators within the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and secondary legislation of the European Organic Regulation. The meeting also highlighted the importance of further investments in digitalisation to ease administrative burdens for organic farmers. We are pleased to see that organic farming remains high on the Commissioner's political agenda as a flagship initiative for the future of agriculture. IFOAM Organics Europe, together with 27 agri-food organisations, urges the EU to maintain a dedicated CAP budget to ensure stability, sustainability, and competitiveness for farmers. A Single Fund approach would create more complexity, uncertainty, and undermine long-term investment in organic farming. Jan Plagge, President of IFOAM Organics Europe, emphasises: "The Strategic Dialogue’s call for a dedicated CAP budget and separate funds for nature restoration and a just transition must be respected. Today more than ever, farmers need stability to be competitive, invest in sustainability and provide the high-quality food that EU citizens expect. A strong and dedicated CAP budget is essential to supporting organic farming, which plays an important role in the transition to more competitive, resilient and sustainable food systems" We call on the Commission not to jeopardise the necessary stability that the CAP provides, nor to lower its environmental ambition. [NTG] 🚨 Le Conseil déroule le tapis rouge aux multinationales, au détriment des agriculteurs, des filières et des consommateurs ! Le Conseil de l’UE vient d’adopter son mandat de négociation sur les Nouvelles Techniques Génomiques (#NTG). Une décision qui fait la part belle aux intérêts des grandes firmes agrochimiques, au détriment des agriculteurs, des semenciers indépendants et des consommateurs : 👉 Les brevets sur les NTG ne sont pas encadrés : les sélectionneurs et agriculteurs risquent de perdre l’accès libre aux semences. 👉 Pas de traçabilité digne de ce nom : un simple étiquetage des semences ne suffit pas, il faut une transparence sur toute la chaîne. 👉 Des mesures de coexistence inapplicables : l’agriculture #bio et #OGM-free sera exposée à des risques de contamination sans protection réelle. 📌 Ce texte menace directement la souveraineté alimentaire et la biodiversité en Europe. Le Parlement européen a intégré la traçabilité dans sa position. Les trilogues seront décisifs : c'est maintenant qu'il faut se mobiliser pour défendre une agriculture résiliente et indépendante.
