A development & humanitarian organization advancing children's rights & equality for girls in more than 80 countries 🌍.

About us

Plan International Belgium is a development and humanitarian organisation that defends equality for girls in order to seek a better future for all children. We strive for a just world, working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners. We see clear links between fulfilling children’s rights, achieving gender equality and ending child poverty. Every girl and boy has the right to be healthy, educated, protected, valued and respected in their own community and beyond. We support these rights from when children are born to when they reach adulthood. We work to ensure that girls and boys know their rights, and have the skills, knowledge and confidence to fulfil them. This approach inspires and empowers children and communities to create long-lasting change. ✅ Until every girl is free. • Sport as a game changer for girls!⚽ Royale Union Saint-Gilloise SCRL recently took a stand for gender equality by teaming up with Plan International Belgium for International Women’s Day 2025. During the match against Standard de Liège on 9 March, fans could throw their reusable cups in the eco-collection bins, as such donating the deposit money to our international education and sports programmes. While sport is often seen as a leisure activity, its transformative power goes far beyond the field. Through sports, girls build confidence, develop leadership skills, and gain resilience, all of which help them succeed in school and life. Plan International Belgium combines sport & education through:  💛 Sports training that fosters teamwork, discipline, and self-belief  💙 Education workshops on gender equality, leadership, and health  💛 Safe spaces where girls can play, learn, and express themselves freely  💙 Engaging boys and communities to challenge gender stereotypes Thank you, Union SG, for standing with us in the fight for equal opportunities! Together, we can create a world where every girl has the chance to survive, learn and thrive—on and off the field.  Want to know more about CSR, well-being and personalised packages? • 📢 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀’ 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀: 𝟯𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗲𝗶𝗷𝗶𝗻𝗴!    Plan International, UNICEF, and UN Women have released the new report “Girl Goals: What has changed for girls? Adolescent girls’ rights over 30 years” examining how adolescent girls' lives have evolved since the Beijing Platform for Action was endorsed by 189 governments in 1995.    Over the past 30 years, progress has been made for adolescent girls, especially in education. However, significant gaps remain. Here are some of the key findings:    🎓 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻:  ✅ 39% decrease in out-of-school girls globally  ❌ 50 million adolescent girls and young women are still illiterate    ⚕️ 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵  ✅ Improvements in girls' health, with better access to services  ❌ Urgent need for better menstrual health management and sexual health education    🚫 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗲 & 𝗙𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗙𝗚𝗠)  ❌ 1 in 5 girls are married before 18, and 50 million girls have experienced sexual violence  ❌ Female genital mutilation remains widespread    Kathleen Sherwin, Chief Strategy and Engagement Officer for Plan International, states: “Tireless efforts to combat gender inequality mean that a girl’s chances of going to school are significantly higher than three decades ago, and her chances of marrying or becoming pregnant as a child much lower. There is much to celebrate – but at the same time, this progress is fragile, uneven, and constantly under threat. Our work to achieve equality for girls must continue, working with girls, women and their allies around the world.”      🌍 Read the full report and learn how we can support change! 👇   #GirlsRights #Education #GenderEquality

  • Celebrating 4 Years of Partnership with helen b for International Women’s Day! For the fourth year in a row, helen b has launched a beautiful, purpose-driven porcelain mug in honour of International Women’s Day. With every mug sold, €3 goes directly to Plan International Belgium’s education projects, helping girls worldwide access the opportunities they deserve.  This collaboration is a great example of cause-related marketing, where a strong brand aligns with a meaningful cause to drive real impact. We are incredibly proud of our partnership with Helen Blanchaert and grateful for her commitment to education and gender equality. Let’s continue to create partnerships that make a difference! • 📢 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 #𝗖𝗦𝗪𝟲𝟵 The 𝟲𝟵𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 is underway in New York, and the 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻—of which 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗴𝗶𝘂𝗺 is a proud partner—is actively participating. Every year the commission discusses the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (1995) and gives recommendations.  This year’s edition is marked by global challenges and worldwide pressure on women's rights. While many would say that “the work is done”, the reality tells a different story. The Coalition reflects on the first days: “The fight for gender equality is taking place amidst a variety of global challenges… These factors are creating what many experts describe as a serious setback for women's rights, threatening to reverse decades of hard-won progress.” Read the full article here (in Dutch): Coalitie gendergelijkheid | Activiteiten - Coalitie gendergelijkheid At Plan International Belgium, we stand firmly in solidarity with girls and women around the world whose rights are under threat. We advocate for all children, adolescents and youth everywhere, including and especially girls, who are so often marginalised and overlooked.   #csw69 #genderequality Vrouwenraad, CFFB Conseil des Femmes Francophones de Belgique, ella vzw - kenniscentrum gender en etniciteit, Furia , Punt vzw, Vrouwennet vzw, 11.11.11 and 𝗭𝗶𝗷𝗸𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘃𝘇𝘄.

  • 🌍 Adolescent girls and young women across the Sahel are significantly impacted by climate change. Yet, their voices are often unheard, and their struggles unseen:    Climate change…  🍽️ exacerbates food and water insecurity  🧳 forces migration and fuels resource conflicts  ⚖️ deepens gender and social inequalities  ⚠︎ heightens risks of violence and threatens fundamental rights    These consequences are even more pronounced for girls and young women because of traditional gender norms, stereotypes, discrimination and early marriage.     The solution? Empowering girls as leaders in climate action!     Our latest study highlights the gender-specific impacts of climate change and offers actionable tools to protect and support girls and young women.    📖 Interested to know more about the issue?
