We advance children's rights and equality for girls around the world.

About us

Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children's rights and equality for girls. We believe in the power and potential of every child, but know this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it is girls who are most affected. Working with children, young people, supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges girls and vulnerable children face. We support children's rights from birth to adulthood and we enable children to prepare for and respond to crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge. For over 85 years, we have rallied other determined optimists to transform the lives of all children in more than 80 countries. We won't stop until we are all equal.

📣"Revitalizing CSW is about making commitments matter, ensuring accessibility and inclusion, and fostering accountability at all levels. We must move beyond discussions and deliver real, actionable change for women, girls, and gender equality worldwide." Debora Cobar shares this hugely important message on CSW revitalization at the high-level dialogue on accelerating implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action. #CSW69 👏"CSW must be a safe, inclusive, and accessible space where civil society, human rights defenders, and young advocates, including adolescent girls, can meaningfully participate. Their engagement should be institutionalized, recognizing them as experts on thematic issues rather than token participants. To ensure their voices are heard, Member States must provide dedicated financial support for travel, visas, and technology access, addressing barriers like the digital divide that often exclude those from lower-income backgrounds." Stories from the Future: Charting a path towards the future girls want The year is 2055. Governments have fully adopted all recommendations made by adolescent girls and young people in 2025. What does this world look like? What kind of opportunities and possibilities do adolescent girls have access to that they currently do not? And what kind of challenges would they still face? Plan International invited 15 adolescent girls and young women from 11 countries to imagine this world 30 years from now and write stories about the future girls want. Adiatu, 20, from Ghana imagines a future where all girls can use coding skills to make their dreams become reality. Kadiatu, 23, from Guinea imagines a future where harmful practices against girls and women are ended through virtual museums that inform of their impacts. B, 22, from Jordan imagines a future where social media is used to end discrimination and gender inequality. These stories center on key themes, such as education, violence against women and girls, sexual and reproductive health and rights, girls in crisis and girls’ leadership. Using the unique power of storytelling, the writers wanted to inspire all levels of government policy-makers and other power holders to take urgent action to see this future realized. 📣 "If we are advocating for change, we have also to imagine the world we want those girls in the future to live in." - Joselyne, 25, Rwanda The 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women commemorates the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the landmark Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. The event “Stories from the Future: Charting a path towards the future girls want,” held during #CSW69, celebrated young people’s vision for the future of gender equality, and made space for panelists and attendees to reflect on the spirit of the stories. A guided meditation at the beginning of the event set the tone, inviting participants to imagine a positive future for gender equality. Young people then shared several stories, inviting panelists to reflect on what concrete actions would need to be taken today and over the course of the next 30 years in order to make the world envisioned a reality. 💙 “The girls in the future will be very much appreciative of the efforts of today’s gender activists to give them a brighter future. They will occupy spaces irrespective of their gender.” - Tenneh, 23, Sierra Leone What will 2055 look like, and how will member states help achieve this future young people want? • Over recent years, we have seen the regression of rights in several areas which directly impact the lives of children and young people. This has included denying essential comprehensive sexuality education to children, adolescents and young people, restricting access to and funding for safe abortion, anti LGBTQIA+ laws and excluding girls and women from education. This #CSW69, we want to see member states take action to advance girls’ rights. It’s critical. #Beijing30 https://lnkd.in/eJyrgxMn
