About us
Port of Antwerp-Bruges is a centuries-old double gateway to Europe and one of the biggest ports in the world. Follow us for the latest updates on how we’re working hard to become the port of the future, in tune with the world. We are the port authority. This means we play a key role in the port's day-to-day operations, to make it function and grow. We manage and maintain the docks, the bridges, the locks, the quay walls and the land. We’re also responsible for safe shipping traffic there. Apart from that, we provide tugs and cranes, carry out dredging work and promote the #PortofAntwerpBruges at home and abroad. We have a strong focus on the future, with sustainable development, transition and resilience as our top priorities.

NextGen is a great example of circular innovation in the port. Companies like Bolder Industries and PureCycle Technologies will soon be working here to process and recycle old materials, such as tires and plastic. By giving waste a second life, they're helping create a more sustainable future. We believe in the power of the circular economy and are taking active steps to collaborate with the entire value chain. For example, today we are discussing the future of circular economy during an engaging workshop with industry organizations, research institute VITO and private companies . We are ready to drive this transition forward. 💪 #NextGen #CircularEconomy #PortOfTheFuture

Today marks the launch of CHERISH2O, an ambitious project in our port that brings together 12 chemical companies and other partners to investigate how to collectively turn wastewater from port industries into reusable process water, by conducting a feasibility study and setting up a test pilot. This way, we’re preparing together for a future with secure water supplies. Climate change calls for smart water solutions. With the support of the Flemish Blue Deal, we’re preparing the port to face droughts and water shortages. Partners: VITO - essenscia - Nautic Group VMM - Antea Group Belgium - INEOS - 3M - Bayer - Ashland - LANXESS - Envalior - ExxonMobil - Borealis - Evonik - BASF - Monument Chemical - TotalEnergies #CHERISH2O #circularwater #climatesolutions #waterreuse #bluedeal

We’re thrilled to announce that rail connections at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges have been expanded! 🙌🏻 Hupac Group increased the frequency of the Antwerp-Catalonia rail connection to 10 times a week. This means a faster, more reliable way to move your cargo, with added flexibility thanks to the stopover in Perpignan. On top of that, Kombiverkehr GmbH & Co. KG recently launched a brand-new rail connection between Antwerp and Madrid. Since 3 September 2024, this twice-weekly direct service has been opening up new possibilities for transporting not just containers and swap bodies, but also hazardous cargo. With trusted partners like DB Cargo Belgium and Renfe, we're ensuring a reliable and safe transport solution. https://bit.ly/4gp3l7c

Antwerp’s port area now features a 350-meter bike path, built by COLAS and entirely with electric machines — a first for Belgium. 💪🏻 Depending on the energy mix, this method can reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 90% compared to traditional techniques - a great step towards the ambitious goal of becoming climate neutral by 2050. 💚 The University of Antwerp (Universiteit Antwerpen) is monitoring this project as part of PIONEERS Ports, a European initiative focused on sustainability in ports. The university has developed a Green Public Procurement tool that helps calculate the full CO₂ footprint of the asphalt used. Curious how this project is driving the future of sustainable infrastructure? Discover the full story here ➡️ https://bit.ly/3Tn2vOB

Next week, forest products professionals from around the world will gather in Antwerp for the Transport Symposium by Fastmarkets and the International Forest Products Transport Association (IFPTA). 🌍 Why Antwerp? Our port is a strategic hub for wood, pulp, and paper. From raw logs and tropical hardwood from West Africa to plywood from Asia and South America, our port handles it all. Picture the impressive open hatch bulk carriers bringing in pulp from Brazil, the US, and Scandinavia. Massive rolls of paper arrive and are carefully stored in our high-quality warehouses, ready for the next step. For example, our service providers add value by transforming these rolls into packaging materials. The future of cardboard looks bright. Discover more about the evolving forest products industry in this video and article: https://lnkd.in/e7EUrNMa.
