The UN Secretary-General’s Panel on Critical Energy Transition Minerals has declared that “resourcing the energy transition requires a new paradigm rooted in equity and justice.” Now, more than ever, we need global collective action to bring these ambitions to life. Resource Matters' Cobalt Supply Chains { https://lnkd.in/equ7PpyD } is a due diligence tool designed to support this call for action. It helps to: 🔎Track and display cobalt transactions between companies, promoting greater transparency. 🚨Provide information to identify and mitigate supply chain risks, ensuring accountability at every stage. 📣 Raise civil society’s voice on pollution and human rights issues by increasing awareness both locally and through engagement with stakeholders throughout the supply chain. By empowering all actors with the information they need, we can work together to build a cobalt supply chain that aligns with the principles of equity, justice, and sustainability. 👉 Read the full CSO response to the Panel's report: https://lnkd.in/eWpQjaUj #JustMinerals #JustTransition

The launch of the UN Secretary-General’s Panel on Critical Energy Transition Minerals is a pivotal moment. We're proud to be a signatory of the Principles to Ensure Energy Transition Minerals Advance Justice, Equity, and Human Rights. These principles are crucial for a just, equitable, and human rights-focused energy transition. Here are the key aspects we stand for: 1. Local Content Requirements: Policies should ensure local communities benefit from employment, skills development, and business opportunities in mineral extraction projects. These benefits must be equitably distributed and free from corruption. 2. Transparency: Robust access to information laws should mandate the disclosure of revenue from mineral extraction and processing. This includes licenses, contracts, and project-level financial details to ensure transparency and accountability. 3. Anti-Corruption Measures: Both governments and companies must adopt zero-tolerance policies for corruption in mining and mineral processing. This includes strengthening institutional capacities to investigate and prosecute corruption. Join us in advocating for these transformative principles to create a just and sustainable global energy system. #EquitableDevelopment #EnergyTransition #HumanRights #ClimateJustice #RenewableEnergy #UN #Sustainability #Transparency #AntiCorruption #Inclusion
