A vibrant civil society is crucial for eradicating poverty and tackling inequalities. As we enter a new political term, the EU must actively embrace the contributions of civil society organisations, including those working with children and young people. Their voices must be fully integrated into EU policies and partnerships.   Save the Children Europe stands ready to work with the new European Parliament and international partners to turn this vision into a reality.

To build a future where every child can thrive, the EU must take bold, inclusive action and tackle the root causes of inequality. Grateful to CONCORD, European Peacebuilding Liaison Office (EPLO), and VOICE EU for facilitating much-needed dialogue between civil society and policymakers. It was a pleasure meeting Barry Andrews MEP, representing the @EuropeanParliament DEVE Committee. It’s time to place children’s rights at the heart of EU partnerships. Children, communities, and civil society must become equal partners in decision-making.

On this #InternationalProtectEducationDay, we are proud to share how we continue to support children through education, even in the toughest circumstances. From conflict zones to refugee camps, education offers hope and resilience. The EU in Emergencies has played a crucial role in helping thousands of children get the quality education they deserve, and it must keep its commitment to allocating 10% of aid to education in the new political mandate. This investment isn't just in classrooms, but in the future of our global community.

Anderson, a dedicated humanitarian worker with Save the Children in #Haiti, shares a sobering reality: "I’ve never felt more powerless in my own country." Only in the past six months of 2024 an average of five children a week have been killed or injured in Haiti, and the situation continues to deteriorate. Children are left vulnerable to recruitment by armed groups, and families are forced to flee their homes. The EU and the international community must act now to protect these children by fully funding Haiti’s #HumanitarianResponsePlan. This includes prioritizing child-specific interventions in nutrition, education, and protection. Humanitarian access remains a major challenge. The EU European Commission must use its influence to ensure safe, unrestricted access for aid workers and local partners who are crucial in reaching the most vulnerable. Additionally, we need to support a long-term strategy that addresses the root causes of this crisis, paving the way for peace and stability in Haiti.

⚠Conflict. Hunger. Child Labour. Displacement⚠ This is the reality for children in #Sudan right now. They've suffered unimaginable loss, physical and emotional distress, and prevalent violations of their rights. They have been forced from their homes, and lost their right to education. Now, the UN has declared famine in parts of the country - children are going hungry. This is forcing parents to rely on desperate measures such as child labour to get by. Despite the staggering levels of need, this crisis is not getting the attention it deserves. We urge EU leaders, European External Action Service to step up. Support our life-saving work in Sudan and across the world. Act now to protect Sudan's children.

Thanks to EU support, a village school in #Ukraine has become a lifeline for children affected by the ongoing conflict. With funding from EU in Emergencies, Save the Children refurbished the school basement, turning it into a mobile Child-Friendly Space. This space is now the only place where children can connect, socialize, and receive much-needed psychosocial care. Through arts, games, and interaction, they find relief from the stresses of war. Continued support from the EU, governments, donors, and the international community is crucial. We urge the EU to keep supporting Ukraine's education system by rebuilding schools, ensuring safe learning environments, and funding long-term education and mental health programs. You can read more in the full report below.

"It's not what it used to be. I dream that the war will end so that we can go to school and learn", Anton*, 11, from Mykolaiv. After over 2 years of war, about two-thirds of children in the frontline regions of #Ukraine can still not attend school in person due to the danger of air strikes and shelling. At least 3,000 educational institutions have been damaged and more than 300 destroyed during the war, comprising more than 10% of Ukraine’s schools. Read our new report that reveals the dramatic impact the war has had on education in Ukraine ⬇
