    📢 Shopper Marketers, are you rolling out new in-store campaigns? If so, testing your agency's creative is essential. It's a key part of the marketing planning process, one that delivers the highest ROI. Here are your testing options: 👩🔬 3M VAS (and its derivatives) Based on predictive 'AI' heatmaps, 3M VAS and similar tools are wildly popular. They predict what someone is going to notice in the first couple of seconds of looking at an image, based on contrast, colors, edges etc. This is only pre-cognitive attention, before the brain actually starts processing. Why are these tools so popular? Ease of use, low cost and the "sexy" heatmaps they generate. ✔️ What can you test with predictive heatmaps? ✔️ Layouts. Like if your logo is in the right place or if it's too small. 🛑 What you should NOT test with predictive heatmaps? 🛑 Overall effectiveness of the shopper creative. Like will the creative A or creative B stand out more. Or sell more. Predictive heatmap algorithms were trained on computer screens. They DO NOT work for 3D environments, and especially not for cluttered 3D environments such as supermarkets. In fact, I've seen many cases when tools like these have produced MISLEADING results for in-store environments. 👩🔬 Virtual Shopping or CLT Powerful research tools, been around for ages. ✔️ When to use virtual shopping/CLT? ✔️ High-cost, strategic initiatives. Like planogram changes or main aisle branding takeover. 🛑 When NOT to use? 🛑 Temporary campaigns & early designs. Virtual shopping/CLT takes weeks and huge budgets. Not fit for rapid iterations. 👩🔬 Surveys Surveys will always have their place in research, but trust us when we say that in-store creative is not something you should test in a survey. 🛑 Too many subconscious & automatic factors at play while we shop.
