Strengthening Ukraine’s energy independence with renewable energy. ✊ We welcome European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's recently announcement commitment to rolling out more #renewables in Ukraine this Winter, promising: 💵 €160 million in aid, including €100 million for renewables and repair works. 🏥 Donating solar panels to 21 of the country's hospitals, to guarantee a stable, continued energy supply. Alongside this support, it’s also welcoming to see the publication of the International Energy Agency (IEA)’s report, ‘Ukraine’s Energy Security and the Coming Winter,’ which proposes 🔟 key energy actions to reinforce the country’s energy security. As part of these recommendations, #solar☀ is included as part of an overall recommendation to increase and decentralise Ukraine’s power supply with renewables, ensuring it’s resilience against Russian attacks. Collectively, we must guarantee that hospitals in Ukraine can continue to remain open, and provide critical services to those who need it the most. How do we bring everyone on board the #energytransition❔ During #EURegionsWeek, we're taking a look back at our #SolarSessions conversation with MEP Benedetta Scuderi, Adrian Hiel, Energy Cities, and Florine SERRAULT, FEDARENE. ☀ 🎥 🗣 "We need a lot of funding.... We need a lot of new directives... we need to get rid of any barriers to accessing these 🆕 jobs, and to provide good trainings, considering the intersectional layer of discrimination that people already have when entering the job market."- MEP Scuderi Everyone must have access to joining the #solar workforce. 👷♀️ 👷♂️ We must also address the skills gap, guaranteeing that our #solarheroes have the adequate training to play their part in delivering an inclusive, green transition! ✊ Watch the full discussion here 👉 https://lnkd.in/e6PaXdNU #EuropeanYearofSkills #PactForSkills #Skills4Climate #SolarWorks

The Distribution Grid Matters! ⚡ 🚀SolarPower Europe joined the EU DSO Entity and other 14 European energy associations in a call to place distribution grids at the forefront of the EU agenda for the next 5 years. 📣 Why is this important? Because Distribution System Operators (#DSOs) are the backbone of the energy and digital transition! They play a pivotal role for all European citizens, businesses, and industries. As the key technical enablers of the 42.5% EU renewable energy target, DSOs will connect over 70% of renewables to distribution grids by 2030. This transition will see more than 30 million electric vehicles and 60 million heat pumps on our roads 🚗 Here’s what we’re calling for: 1️⃣ Creating a new Grids Facility, possibly under the EU Competitiveness Fund and aligning the EU financing instruments with the net-zero targets and DSOs’ needs. 2️⃣ Introduce a grid mainstreaming approach to ensure DSOs’ needs are considered in every regulation. 3️⃣ Encourage anticipatory investments, speed up permitting, support supply chains, and foster a regulatory environment for investment. 4️⃣ Launch a European Grid Academy within the framework of the EU’s Net-Zero Academies. Solar employment continues to grow, but the pace is slowing 🐢 SolarPower Europe's EU Solar Jobs Report reveals that 826,000 worked in the solar PV sector in 2023 – that's a 27% increase compared to 2022. However, the annual growth of solar employment will stall in 2024, with a projected growth of only 0.4% this year. To deliver the EU's goal of 88.5 GW of annual solar installations by 2027, the sector must reach 1 million solar workers by the same year ☀ 👷♀️ Last year's report predicted 1 million solar workers by 2025 which has now been revised, reflecting slower solar deployment growth projected for 2024, especially in the rooftop market, and the challenges experienced by the solar manufacturing sector.
