Building Growth & Competitiveness 🚨We have published the Political Priorities for the EU Starch Industry. 🚨 The EU starch industry is currently facing significant challenges that threaten its competitiveness and economic sustainability. The development of a strong EU Industrial policy should be a priority, both to strengthen and increase the resilience of the EU industry, thus allowing us to continue to contribute to EU economic growth, but also to support the transition to more sustainable production and consumption in line with the ambitions of moving towards a more sustainable food system. Here we outline priorities for our industry for the next political mandate, to ensure that together we can build growth and competitiveness. 👇 #EUElections #BeyondStarch https://lnkd.in/ezRdcj-N

Today, on #WorldFoodDay, let's advocate with FAO for the right to food for a better life and future. 🌍 Despite producing enough food for the global population, hunger persists—affecting 733 million people due to climate shocks, conflicts, economic downturns, inequality, and the pandemic. This crisis impacts the poor and vulnerable, often agricultural households, highlighting growing inequalities. Food is a fundamental human need, and everyone should have the right to nutritious, affordable, accessible, safe and sustainable food. 📎 Join in to support food security: https://lnkd.in/ekyVGHK7 #Safe2EatEU #WorldFoodDay #FoodSafety #EUFoodStandards #HealthyLiving #SustainableFoodSystem #AgriculturalPractices #MinimiseFoodWaste #GlobalFoodSecurity

I welcome the own-initiative opinion from the European Economic and Social Committee adopted in its agriculture and environment section with the title “Aligning the circular economy and the bioeconomy at EU and national level”. With this opinion, the Committee: ▶ stresses that coherence is needed with #EUGreenDeal, sustainable #development commitments, the #CircularEconomy and broader climate and #biodiversity targets. A robust bioeconomy will complement progress made on circular economy and will allow for competitive growth within planetary boundaries consistent with sustainability; ▶ finds that the opportunity for the EU to be a global leader should be capitalised on with a highly ambitious, coherent #bioeconomy strategy. Well-paid sustainable jobs, including in rural and remote regions, should be maximised. Existing technology can be used to bring urgently-needed products and services to the market; ▶ is of the opinion that the EU needs a clearly-defined definition of bioeconomy in order to explicitly emphasise its link to the circular economy and its potential as a tool for delivering on sustainable development. Glad to see that there is inter-institutional support for this important initiative and looking forward to the EESC plenary vote on 23/24 October. Stay tuned for more! #EUBioeconomy 🔗

In the EU, food safety is prioritised. Each food additive is given an E number for identification and is assessed by European scientists for safety. Both new and existing additives undergo evaluation to ensure continuous safety and suitability, with additives clearly listed on food product labels. This commitment to safety, transparency, and regulation underscores the EU's dedication to public health and culinary diversity, fostering confidence in the food system. A new chapter in the EU is about to start - a new European Parliament has been elected, and will take their seats for the first time in just a few weeks. A new European Commission will follow soon after. Whether they are new faces, or known faces back for a new term, we are excited to work together with everyone to ensure that we build #growth & #competitiveness sustainably over the next 5 years and beyond. In the coming months, myself and Starch Europe colleagues will be presenting and explaining our own hopes and expectations from EU decision-makers in the next cycle, but first we thought we should reintroduce ourselves with an explanation of who we are and how we are already helping the EU become more #sustainable. #BeyondStarch

Following the EU elections, incoming policymakers have a huge task at hand. As I argue in this article, a strong, competitive food and drink sector is a pre-requisite to ensure European security, stability and welfare. We look forward to upcoming discussions about the EU's Strategic Agenda 2024-2029, Prof. Mario Draghi's Competitiveness Report and further political lines EU Heads of State and Government are setting out for the next institutional mandate of the EU, in which we expect no less than that food plays a strategic role.
It’s time for Europe to get serious about the future of its food and drink sector

#eau #industrie #reut #agroalimentaire #madeinfrance #produire
