What a marvellous trend: We have qualified as a member of the #BlueInvest Community, part of the European Union's initiative to drive investments and innovation in #BlueEconomy and #BlueTech. This recognition marks an enormous milestone in establishing #BlueSecurity - a holistic term encompassing ocean governance, maritime security, and human rights - within the broader #BLUE Framework. https://lnkd.in/dXj7aCEQ Big shout-out to PwC with Christelle Sapata and her team in Luxembourg for their vision and commitment. And a special congratulations to our own Philippe HERMES, who has been recognised as an expert and coach, providing guidance to start-ups and investors on these important elements as part of the EU's BlueInvest platform. #MaritimeInnovation #Fisheries #Aquaculture #MaritimeTourism #Shipping #Shipbuilding #MarineScience #EMFAF #CostalProtection

Smooth sailing at today’s lunch meeting at EGMONT - Royal Institute for International Relations, where we discussed the Arctic, Security, Crisis Preparedness, Resilience, and a bit of #BlueEconomy. My critical stance on Arctic shipping has held strong for over a decade – the Northern Sea Route is no easy "Pina Colada" cruise. With PONANT, Silversea Cruises or MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company showing different approaches, the challenges of Arctic business, safety and security are on the table. Bravo Zulu, Rachael G., for the comprehensive briefing, which reminded me of Bud Darr’s recent post: https://lnkd.in/dqKETa3P #BlueSecurity

Trending - it’s been almost two weeks since I packed my things for the Seatrade Cruise event in Málaga. The launch of our *Destination Trend Dossier* left some seasoned industry veterans genuinely surprised, given how groundbreaking it is in the cruise sector. What a wonderful feeling! Our approach involves analysing and assessing the local capabilities and resources of a destination for cruise companies, port investors and tourism agencies, focusing on #Predictability, #Reliability, #Hospitality, #Safety, and #Security during three critical periods. The dossier examines local resilience and impacts on predefined cruise specifications during the phases of Destination Planning, Itinerary Execution, and Crisis Management. #STCMed put on an excellent event. Alongside the standout keynote speech on "Partnering in Progress," two panel discussions left a lasting impression: "New Players in the Med" and "Protecting and Preserving Destination Heritage" - a topic that Téthys Naval had just discussed with the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) this past summer. #cruiseindustry #cruisesecurity #BlueSecurity #ESG #BlueInvest #cruisehive

"At sea, the universality of the democratic principle of a Fair Trial seems to have been forgotten. At sea, the end justifies the means, and nobody bothers" Our latest Whitepaper has been published and is available for download: https://lnkd.in/dTiNBMeY We shed light on the problematic handling of criminal offences at sea with ISPS tools and STCW practices. We discuss the issues of preservation of evidence and the importance of the presumption of innocence. We point to risks for shipping companies of getting themselves into focus of criminal investigations and liability proceedings due to flawed practices. #SDG14 #SDG16 #crimeatsea #justiceatsea #seafarer #humanrightsatsea #bluesecurity #maritimesecurity #policesummit #ISPS #STCW

Two Unpopular Facts in Shipping and Law Enforcement: 1) A certified ISPS protocol prepares no Ship Security Officer to respond to crimes and offences on board. 2) No STCW certified Ship Security Officer is capable of representing impartial justice on board. https://lnkd.in/dmtVtYum Let's get this straight and enhance the capabilities. #ISPS #STCW #SSO #training #SDG16 #maritimesecurity

Well said, Bud Darr. The tide has turned over the past decade, and the Arctic passage no longer follows the mindless dogma of political prestige over shipping expediency. In light of Maritime Security, our Philippe HERMES presented his sceptic forecast on the commercial attractiveness of Arctic shipping at the #SeaPowerSeries of Kiel Conference 2016, hosted by the Institut für Sicherheitspolitik an der Universität Kiel (ISPK) and Prof. Joachim Krause together with NATO Centre of Excellence for Operations in Confined and Shallow Waters (COE CSW). Philippe found little support from the shipping sector for his minority opinion. Finally, the sustainability of shipping, the impact on the environment and people, and the nautical hazards along the Northern Sea Route has become a #popular #opinion. Bravo, MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company
MSC reaffirms its commitment to NOT use the Northern Sea Route as a shipping lane, a stance we believe the entire shipping industry should adopt 🌎🚢 💛 Here is why: • Arctic waters are extremely challenging to navigate due to ice, weather conditions, insufficient chart information, and limited infrastructure. • Search-and-rescue and pollution response resources are distant, meaning our ships and crews would be largely on their own. • We understand that Arctic communities depend on shipping, and we should not burden its essential traffic with unnecessary transits. • There is no shortcut to the decarbonization of shipping. Additionally, our fleet and network can efficiently transport our customers’ cargoes worldwide without transiting the Arctic. At MSC, we remain fully committed to avoiding trade routes in fragile marine ecosystems and vulnerable environments, such as the Arctic. Cutting through melting ice to open a new trade route is incompatible with this commitment. Watch this video to hear Bud Darr explain MSC's position in more detail ⬇️
