💡 CAN AI DO STRATEGY? Next month we are excited to welcome our members to an exclusive Online Connect to consider how AI impacts how companies formulate and implement strategies. The session will be joined by Martin Butler and Brett Hamilton who will explore the fundamental questions that remain around AI, strategy, and strategic decision-making. For example: 🌱 Can AI generate novel and innovative strategies? 🤖 Can AI enhance - or even replace! - the work of strategists and consultants? 🔀 What are the best ways to integrate AI into strategy processes? If this sound interesting, and if you are an executive responsible for strategy in your organisation, feel free to connect to learn more about becoming a member of Vlerick Strategy in Action Platform (SIAP). #strategy #ai #artificialintelligence #technology #tech #technologyadoption #leadership #boardroom #decisionmaking #innovation Vlerick Business School Kurt Verweire Carine Peeters Martin Weiss Robyn Hanssens (she/her) Esha Mendiratta Kerstin Fehre Marion Debruyne (she/her) Patrick De Greve

Discussions at our recent 'Making change happen' workshop made it clear that the ability to change and respond to change is crucial for business success. But this is easier said than done. An important step for executives is to understand the company’s capacity for change. In their article for Harvard Business Review, David Michels and Kevin Murphy describe nine factors that determine this ‘change power’ and how most organisations fall within one of four change archetypes: 🥅 In search of focus High activity with past success, but like junior footballers, everyone is chasing the same ball - Consider: Make link between change and strategy clear, define clear objectives, and prioritise initiatives ☂️ Aligned but constrained Effective and aligned teams, but like top league footballers having to play on a muddy non-league field, past success failed to prepare them for constraints - Consider: Prioritise initiatives, and identify and address bottlenecks and resources gaps 🏆 Stuck and sceptical Plenty of good ideas with past success but change always stayed at the local level. These footballers need a ‘spirit award’ - Consider: Build motivation and energy, and engineer small and early wins 😰 Struggling to keep up Past success due to laser focus, but like national champions now having to adapt to playing in the Champions League, this focus becomes a tyranny - Consider: Develop ability to prepare for the future, such as foresight You can read the full article here 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e-seZvr #strategy #change #changemanagement #culture #leadership Vlerick Business School Kurt Verweire Carine Peeters Martin Weiss Brett Hamilton Kerstin Fehre Esha Mendiratta Robyn Hanssens (she/her)

"Will AI soon replace even the most elite consultants ... and strategists, and executives?" 🤔 Earlier this month, Vlerick Strategy in Action Platform (SIAP) and our members were invited to attend the Trendtracker by Trensition End of Summer Night to discuss the use of AI and technology in strategy 💡 Our own Carine Peeters opened proceedings as she shared her thoughts on how to strategise under uncertainty by preparing our organisations for alternative futures. Other incredible speakers included Philippe M. Mauchard and Michael Majster from Arthur D. Little, who spoke of the importance of being adaptable, and Tom De Ruyck from Human8, who gave great insights into the importance of being close to your customers when innovating. A big thanks to Vincent Defour, Mike Vanderroost, and the rest of the Trensition team, our SIAP members, and all other attendees for the stimulating insights and discussions. We already look forward to the next one! #strategy #AI #artificialintelligence #technology #innovation #tech #startup #founder Vlerick Business School Kurt Verweire Kerstin Fehre Esha Mendiratta Brett Hamilton Martin Weiss Patrick De Greve Marion Debruyne (she/her)

This week we hosted our final workshop for 2024 on 'Making Change Happen' ✅️ Change ranks high on the list of priorities of executives; however, research shows that turning change intentions into actions remains one of the biggest challenges for most organisations. Combining latest research and peer-to-peer exchanges ensured for great discussions among our members on two key questions: ❓️ Is change an event, a process, or an organisational capability? ❓️ Is change a business or a people imperative? It was great to hear from Geert Letens of LQ - Energise for Success on how they use The Six Batteries of Change to successfully implement change in organisations, by considering both rational and affective elements at every level of the organisation. Thank you to James Zackheim and Philippe Henrotaux who shared lessons and insight from their recent change programme at UCB. We look forward to welcoming back our members to our next workshop early next year! 👍 #strategy #corporatestrategy #change #changemanagement #communication #culture Vlerick Business School Carine Peeters Martin Weiss Brett Hamilton Kurt Verweire Esha Mendiratta Kerstin Fehre Robyn Hanssens (she/her)

So impressive testimonial by James Zackheim about the change process at UCB implementating a new operating model. Great insight about value drivers and coherent links to external stakeholders as key building blocks, as well as about key principles and process management. Thank you Carine Peeters and her team at Vlerick Business School for having organised the SIAP!

Last week Vlerick Business School announced the winners of the 23rd Vlerick Award and we are happy to congratulate Guido Vanherpe, Group CEO of La Lorraine Bakery Group NV, for winning the Vlerick Enterprising Leader Award 👏 LLBG is a proud member of Vlerick Strategy in Action Platform (SIAP) and Guido – who has a keen interest in strategy – has guided the company on an impressive international growth journey over the past years. During his discussion with Marion Debruyne (she/her) at the award event, Guido reflected on the need for leaders to remain curious and to remain open to learn and evolve. Congratulations and thanks for the example you set, Guido! How to change to a culture of change?
📣 WORKSHOP UPDATE: Making change happen 📣 We look forward to welcoming our Vlerick Strategy in Action Platform (SIAP) members to Brussels next month for an in-person workshop on organisational change. The ability to drive change is essential for business success, and at the heart of any such transformation is the culture of the organisation. In fact, Deloitte’s Chairman’s Survey found that while 94% of executives believe culture is important for business success, only 19% think their organisation has the right culture. As Erin Meyer states, “Few companies articulate their culture to make the words become reality and mould employee behaviour.” Typically, leaders approach culture as abstract values or similarly vague concepts, that do little to guide employees on how they should behave and what decisions to make. In her article for Harvard Business Review, Meyer provides a few rules: ➡️ Build your culture on real-world dilemmas to create value statements that are useful in real decision situations 🎨 Articulate the culture using concrete images and representations 🎭 Hire, reward, and promote the right people 🎯 Make sure that culture aligns with the strategy 🚫 Be clear on what behaviour is not desired If you want to engage more on this topic, contact us to become a SIAP member and join us at the in-person workshop on 9/10 October 2024.
