#ElevateYourResearch Is there actually any need to do do materials science research in space? Yes, there is! In microgravity, the absence of gravity-driven phenomena enables the production of a wide range of new materials. 🔵 Removing sedimentation and buoyancy enables the production of unique #alloys and compositions. 🔵 Surface tension processes may eliminate voids and ensure continuous contact between dissimilar #materials. 🔵 Lack of convection provides latent #environments that may remove or minimise defects. 🚀 Ready for Launch! 🚀 🔬 Exciting advancements are underway with the Science Cube Mk2 as University of Oxford, NDORMS and Prenetics collaboration prepares for its trip to the ISS tonight! 🌍 “Ageing beyond Earth”: This collaborative experiment aims to uncover the cellular and molecular pathways of ageing under microgravity conditions using 3D organoid models. The findings could help model the ageing process on Earth and identify new drug or supplement targets to enhance the health span of both the elderly on Earth and astronauts in space. 👩🚀 The Science Cube Mk2 brings significant enhancements: ‼️ Doubling the number of Samples: from 6 to 12 x 4ml 🌡️ Temperature Control: Maintained at 37°C to mimic physiological conditions 📹 Independent Monitoring: Control temperature, optical observation, and illumination independently for each group of 6 tubes 🧰 Enhanced Containment: Two levels of containment ensure safe handling of biohazard samples within the cube The Science Cube Mk2 will be hosted inside the ICE Cubes Facility in the Columbus module, to be monitored remotely by the scientists at Oxford, via their Space Innovation Lab. The launch of SpaceX CRS-31 is currently scheduled for tonight (Nov. 5th, 2:29 GMT). ⏱️ Stay tuned for more updates! 🚀 Ready for Launch! 🚀 While the RISE (Resilient Integrated Structural Elements) cube of Università degli Studi di Trieste & PICOSATS SRL patiently waits to be launched to the #ISS, we would like to share an overview of the project. The RISE Experiment Cube consists of two main components: 🛰️ Innovative Satellite Structure: The primary experiment showcases a design that integrates power and data distribution directly into 3D-printed structural components, for a more resilient, robust and lightweight design for future satellites. This innovative approach may lead to an easier, cost-effective production, with flexibility and modularity suited for a range of applications, from Earth observation and telecommunications to astrophysics and planetary exploration. 🌏 📷 Educational and Inspirational Component: The secondary payload features a chamber equipped with a camera and an E-Ink screen, along with a soft material "Medallion" that serves as a floating element to showcase microgravity. This setup allows to display short messages and capture them alongside the floating element, featuring the logos of University of Trieste and their industrial partner, PICOSATS. 🔧 RISE was the winning project of the ICE Cubes sponsored challenge within the ‘Space Exploration Masters’ competition, organised by the European Space Agency - ESA. 🏅 The launch of SpaceX CRS-31 is currently scheduled for (NET) Nov. 5th. ⏱️ Stay tuned for more updates! 🚀 Ready for Launch! 🚀 As we approach the much-anticipated launch of Romanian InSpace Engineering (RISE) DropCoal experiment to the International Space Station, we are thrilled to share a quick recap and some cool photos (courtesy of RISE & ESA)! Developed entirely in Romania by RISE, with the support of the European Space Agency - ESA, this pioneering experiment will study, over a period of 6 months, how two droplets - water and 10% ethanol - merge and mix in microgravity. The payload will be accommodated in our ICE Cubes Facility in Columbus, enabling ground operators to monitor and control the experiment remotely. 🎮 DropCoal focuses on the coalescence phenomenon, with potential to yield valuable insights into combustion and rocket engine efficiency, microbiology, and the transport and absorption of medicine in the human body. Its findings are especially relevant for space exploration, advancing knowledge crucial to both astronaut health and fuel handling in space. 💧 The launch of SpaceX CRS-31 is currently scheduled for (NET) Nov. 5th. ⏱️ Stay tuned for more updates!
