About us

Organised by Textile ETP, co-hosted by Titera (DE), Tèxtils.CAT (ES), CeNTi (PT), IVGT (DE), University of Borås's Swedish School of Textiles (SE), Science Park Borås (SE), and Sistema Moda Italia (IT), the Textile ETP has launched the SmartX Innovation Hub to help e-textile and high-performance textile companies, research organisations and brands to learn, network and collaborate. The Hub follows the conclusion of the SmartX Europe project, a Horizon2020 initiative dedicated to boosting e-textiles and wearables into the market. One of the most notable achievements of the project was the realization that learning, sharing, and cross-sector collaboration can play a significant role in innovation.

    📢 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗲: next year, the 19th Textile ETP Annual Conference will be organised in partnership with AITEX and will place as a physical event on 13-14 May 2025 in their facilities in Alcoy, Spain. This year’s focus will spotlight ecodesign, and more specifically ecodesign of clothing and other consumer goods, as well as the sustainability of technical and smart textiles. The event will also be combined with the annual General Assembly of the Textile ETP. Watch this space for more information!

Following that, SmartX members already registered will join us in Barcelona on 12-13 November for the Discover the Catalan High-Performance & Smart Textile Ecosystem workshop. This exciting event features company tours the first day and a networking workshop on the second day.     This week, our Project Manager, Judith Bosch, had a visit to Science Park Borås and their Smart Textiles innovation area in Sweden. This tour gave her the chance to explore advanced developments in smart textiles and medical wearables, spotlighting Sweden’s key role in sustainable and high-tech textile advancements. The day following the visit, Judith chaired a SmartX Innovation Hub webinar live from Science Park Borås. Participants were introduced to textile prototypes presented by Nils-Krister Persson, Senior Lecturer from the Högskolan i Borås. From versatile haptic technology systems to ECG T-shirts, these innovations reflect the remarkable potential of smart textiles in healthcare and beyond 🔬 We thank Science Park Borås for welcoming us and for being an invaluable partner in the SmartX community.

    SmartX Innovation Hub in action at Science Park Borås! Today, Textile ETP hosted an online event live from Science Park Borås and the Smart Textiles innovation environment, where Judith Bosch, Project Manager at Textile ETP and SmartX Community Manager, had the opportunity to see this creative space firsthand. "I'm so happy to showcase our thriving innovation hub and our work in the medical textile area. A huge thank you to SmartX and the team for giving us this opportunity," said Lena-Marie Vikingsdotter Jensen, Project Manager at Smart Textiles and Science Park Borås, who played a key role in the SmartX Europe project, now evolved into an innovation hub offering diverse activities in high-performance textiles and wearables. Additionally, Nils-Krister Persson, PhD at Högskolan i Borås, presented the Suitceyes project, featuring a vest and dress that use vibrations to convey information, helping individuals with deafblindness replace visual and auditory inputs.     🚀 Yesterday, we hosted the third autumn SmartX Innovation Hub webinar, which focused on Medical E-Textiles. 🔬Nils-Krister Persson opened the session with a live presentation at Science Park Borås, introducing four prototypes. These innovations included a versatile haptic technology system, a metal-based arterial dilation device developed alongside healthcare providers, a novel muscle stimulation technology, and an ECG T-shirt designed to enhance connectivity. 👕 Aalok Rai from upLYFT delivered an inspiring talk on transforming fabrics into functional systems, demonstrating how advanced textiles can significantly augment human capabilities. His insights shed light on the exciting possibilities of merging textiles with technology to redefine wearables. 🔋Pasi Pentinpuro from Haltian followed with a presentation on the collaboration between IoT and electronics companies with the textile industry. He emphasized the enormous potential of these cross-industry partnerships in bringing innovative smart textile solutions to market. The webinar concluded with a discussion on sustainability in e-textiles, where participants explored how collaboration between various sectors can drive more sustainable and impactful innovations in the smart textile space. The exchange of ideas reinforced the power of interdisciplinary efforts to shape a more eco-conscious future for the industry. Curious to learn more?
