First Session 2024 of the Tripartite Framework for the Promotion of Local Content in the Mining Sector On October 28, 2024, the Bureau des Mines et de la Géologie du Burkina (BUMIGEB) hosted the first session of the year 2024 of the tripartite framework bringing together the State, mining companies and suppliers of mining goods and services. Chaired by Mr. Doulaye Sanou, Secretary General of the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Quarries, the meeting was attended by representatives of the ministerial departments involved in local content, as well as private sector organizations. In his opening speech, Mr. Sanou emphasized that this tripartite framework was instituted by interministerial order n°2003-152 /MEMC/MEP/MDICAPME of April 5, 2023. It aims to monitor the development and encourage the growth of local supply of goods and services in the mining sector. He also noted that the Local Content Act, passed in July 2024, aims to strengthen existing legislation to promote the involvement of local companies across the mining industry value chain. During this first session, participants examined and adopted the 2023 annual report on local supply. The report shows a growth in the market share of domestic companies, reaching 37.83% in 2023 compared to 33.26% in 2022. The report also reveals that the five most important purchases are fuel (27.17%), lubricants (11%), underground mining (8.82%), open-pit mining (7.58%) and heavy equipment spare parts (4.7%). Ms. Priscille Zongo, Executive Director of the Chamber of Mines, representing the President of the CMB, praised the commitment of mining companies to support the government's public policies in the mining sector, and encouraged all stakeholders to strengthen dialogue for a better understanding of the industry's value chain, in order to achieve local content objectives in mining. At the end of the session, practical recommendations were formulated to enable local companies to better seize the economic opportunities offered by the mining sector. #contenulocal #cadretripartite #miningsector #BurkinaFaso
