Numerous companies find addressing AI bias quite challenging. With the massive volumes of diverse data they need to process, the struggle is real and easy to understand. However, the ethical usage of AI is a topic that is not going away any time soon and is likely to come under even more scrutiny in the following years. So, what should we focus on right now? • Biased algorithms that lead to discrimination and unfair outcomes mostly rely on subpar data foundations. Diversification of the development teams by including domain experts can also help mitigate AI bias. • Transparency is paramount – the inability to explain AI-driven decisions will inevitably result in mistrust toward AI. Therefore, describing the decision-making process must be clear and simple. • Privacy protection is another must, as AI implementation often goes together with serious privacy challenges. This means safety measures must be robust and constantly updated to at least match the rapid evolution of cyber threats. With AI revolutionizing sectors like healthcare, finance, and education before our eyes, its social impact is gigantic, and human oversight seems unavoidable for the time being. What other ethical AI challenges have you encountered? Share your thoughts below. #Scalefocus #EthicalAI #AIEthics #TechEthics #ResponsibleAI

The famous Lindy effect seems to work for technology - it is no coincidence certain solutions have been around for some time now. The likes of Object Relational Mapping are certainly here to stay as long as we use relational databases with object-oriented languages. Unfortunately, non-relational technology is not yet mature enough to handle some important aspects of persistence. On the other hand, when you label a solution as legacy, this simply means it has proven its worth to the business, a lot of investment has gone into it, and few will dare make significant changes. Therefore, relational databases are going to be with us for a long time and not just because they represent one of the fundamental data models. Object-oriented languages are also unlikely to become obsolete as they are taught in academic circles, and plenty of legacy code supports Object Relational Mapping. Furthermore, when you understand ORM concepts well, learning JPA, for example, is trivial when you are proficient in Entity Framework or vice-versa. And what technology is unlikely to have an imminent impact? Most probably, that is quantum computers – as unlimited as their potential might seem, based on the hype, for the time being, they can only be utilized to address niche problems. Both web development and cloud computing, which exclusively served massive corporations to manage their storage and computing, have now become a part of everyday life. It is hard to see quantum computers doing that in the foreseeable future. The last things not yet in the cloud will be moved there, though. At some point, people will realize we are losing some of the freedoms we take for granted, so technology related to digital privacy and regulations will become trendy, especially in case sizeable scandals arise. Also, imagine digital identity becoming the norm in a block such as the EU - that would open the door for digital solutions that are now unthinkable. There are gatekeeping solutions that could seriously change people’s lives, but I don’t expect technology that is fundamental for our current society to become extinct. Do you agree?
