Stena Drilling's Drillship Arrives: Will Chevron prove successful in the West Med? Egypt's Got High Hopes! Stena Drilling is back in Egyptian waters with the mighty Stena Forth and teamed up with Chevron, the American oil giant, to take a peek in a practically untouched part of the West Mediterranean, just off the Egyptian coast. And this is just the beginning - Egypt's sighted to have many other exploration projects lined up with major players in the industry. Looks like things are about to get interesting in the region! Chevron's got big plans for Egypt! They've called in Stena Drilling and their trusty drillship, the Stena Forth, to get things started. First up on the to-do list. Drilling a well Khendjer-1 in the North El Dabaa block. This is Chevron dipping their toes into the Egyptian waters of the West Med for the first time, so eager eyes no doubts. Drilling is set to kick off towards the end of November 2024 - watch this space! Follow the testing requirements of API Standard 53... High-pressure test for annular-type BOPs, inside of choke or kill valves (and annular gas bleed valves for subsea BOP) above the uppermost ram BOP The high pressure test must equal 70 percent of the RWP of the equipment or be 500 psi greater than your calculated MASP, as defined for the operation for the applicable section of hole. Before you may test BOP equipment to the MASP plus 500 psi, the District Manager must have approved those test pressures in your APD or APM. What does the district manager have to say, or more important what do you good people think? 10K most will argue that they test the element to 10,000psi, you probably do if its a new element if its part of the "new element break in procedure" your probably testing to 10,000psi for the wellbore lip seals or the cap seal between and dual annular in most cases, but if your testing every time to 10,000psi it may be worth looking at what you should be doing to avoid infant mortality. 7500psi - This has come from people who don't RTFM or have decided to generalise things and just add 5% what does an extra 5% matter, it was never 75% and still isn't. So that leaves us with 70% and the lowest on the poll, I put it down to ballot interference considering the current climate of polls and skullduggery going on. Remember the pride we felt receiving those AtABoy or Safety Awards? It was a tangible reminder of a job well done, a token of appreciation from a company that valued our hard work. One of our community members shared these nostalgic photos of a matching Cross pen and pencil set, awarded by Santa Fe Drilling Co (U.K.) Ltd Legacy Transocean back in the late 1980s. These small gestures meant the world to us back then. It felt good to be recognized, to feel like we were part of something bigger. It makes you think about how much things have changed. Where's the pride in our work today? Some companies even charge for basic items like company hats! It's no wonder as employees don't value these things anymore. It's hard to appreciate when your employees don't seem to value the brand. Those small gestures of appreciation went a long way in fostering a sense of loyalty and pride. It's a shame that they seem to be a thing of the past. Remember when we used to get these quality AtABoy Awards or Safety Awards and we greatful to have been rewarded? Transocean's harsh environment Semi-sub The Enabler is set to continue its work with Equinor offshore Norway until June 2026. It has been under the current contract since July 2024, following a previous one that began in July 2023. Equinor recently got the green light to use the rig for production drilling and well completions in the Barents Sea. There are also various options starting in June 2026, with day rates of $438K, which could keep the rig busy until January 2027 if exercised. Transocean Deepwater Nautilus will be heading east to JDC the Japan Drilling Co Ltd for a tidy sum of 153M. Great to see the unit going to a great home, newer units have been decommissioned, this shows the quality of the unit design and build. RIG continues to demonstrate the company's significant value adjustment to its asset base, which reflects current market conditions and strategic priorities. The Deepwater Nautilus is a 5th-generation semisubmersible drilling rig, built in the year 2000. Known for its robust design and advanced drilling capabilities, this rig has been instrumental in numerous deepwater drilling projects around the world. Its ability to operate in ultra-deepwater environments has made this a valuable asset in RIG’s fleet.
