🌎 This is my take on the outcomes of COP16 and where I believe we’re headed. As we reflect on the discussions in Cali 🇨🇴 , it’s clear that valuing nature risks within corporate supply chains and financial structures is no longer optional—it’s essential. Integrating environmental stocks 🌳 and natural capital into risk profiles is a critical step forward, but it requires a shift in mindset and metrics 📈. NatureTech solutions 🛰 will be pivotal in enabling this transformation, providing the data, metrics, and insight necessary to make environmental health an integral part of financial decision-making. 🌍 Thrilled to share our experience from the 2-Day BLOOM Conference at #COP16 in Cali! It was inspiring to join forces with industry leaders to discuss how nature can become a cornerstone of business strategy. At the initial Business for Nature session, we explored the critical role of integrating nature into business strategies, using the ACT-D framework (Access, Commit, Transform, Disclose) to guide companies towards nature-positive goals. Nature tech solutions are paving the way, as seen in initiatives from leading companies: 🌱 Highlights from Our Sessions Natura’s Angela Pinhati showcased their innovative approach, incorporating environmental P&L into strategy. Holcim’s Renata Pollini shared their biodiversity strategy—establishing baselines, partnerships with IUCN, and senior leadership commitment linked to strict sustainability metrics like CO2 reductions and circularity. 🔍 Breakout Discussions In a roundtable led by PwC’s @Benjamin Matthews we tackled: • Data harmonization for value on nature • Risk assessment vs. nature valuation • Metrics for the risk of inaction We then had several short keynote sessions. Speakers like Thomas Lingard and Geneva Claesson stressed that: • Only 4% of companies make substantial nature-positive efforts, while 75% focus on smaller projects. • Proactive, holistic planning, fueled by EU #CSRD, is essential for systemic change, moving beyond fragmented actions. 🌎 Nature-Based Solutions and Private Investment On #Day2, Conservation International's Patricia Zurita highlighted restoration needs based on a 50% native-comercial tree approach, while BTG Pactual’s Mark Wishnie emphasized investor engagement for impactful, sustainable landscape restoration in partnership with credible institutions. Microsoft’s Melanie Nakagawa presented their net-zero goal with a focus on scalable digital MRV systems that ensures credibility. 🌳 Biodiversity Credits Innovations like biodiversity credits from Acre Earth and Qarlbo Biodiversity are linking community projects to corporate value chains, ensuring ethical governance and benefit-sharing. 💼 In a focused roundtable discussion led by Andrew McCue from Metabolic, and with the presence of Scott Edwards from Conservation Strategy Fund, and Irene Alcocer and Pablo García Fernández from Forética, we tackled the complex topic of “Financing Nature: Risks and Benefits of Monetizing Ecosystem Services.” This conversation highlighted the risks and benefits of monetizing ecosystem services, emphasizing ecosystem valuation and NatureTech as complementary tools. 📊 Report Launch The Nature Tech Collective Report is live!
