EN At Suzano Ventures, we’re always on the lookout for promising innovations with the potential to both enhance Suzano’s forestry operations, and build the bioeconomy of the future. This week, Álvaro Andrés Gómez Rodríguez, Reinaldo Rocha and Alan Charles Brehmer are in Sacramento, California for this year’s FIRA - World Ag Robotics Forum.   The team will have the opportunity to engage with over 35 startups, each presenting innovative robotics and artificial intelligence-driven solutions for the agroforestry sector. While these technologies are at various stages of development, many are already being deployed to autonomize a range of activities, such as weed control, irrigation, the targeted application of pesticides and fertilisers, and harvesting.   On top of these live demonstrations, the forum offers panels and presentations from leading companies and experts in agricultural machinery and equipment. These discussions will focus on the importance of collaboration and the need for investment in the innovation ecosystem, to accelerate the adoption of autonomous equipment in both agricultural and forestry operations.   This is an exciting event, promising insightful discussions and a hands-on experience with new technologies, and we look forward to capitalising on the opportunities for networking and collaboration that emerge! Suzano has partnered with Cmak Agro, a Brazilian forest tech company focused on developing innovative, high-tech solutions to drive automation in Brazil’s forestry sector.   Intended to accelerate the adoption of these technologies, this partnership will allow CMAK Agro to field-test its solutions across Suzano’s operations in Ribas so Rio Pardo, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Mucuri, Bahia – with potential for expansion.   Incorporating CMAK Agro’s technologies into its operations will allow Suzano to boost its operational competitiveness through greater automated capabilities, and allow the business to its reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout its forestry activities.   At Suzano Ventures, Forest Tech is one of our key verticals, where we support companies advancing digital solutions to enhance forest management and silviculture productivity. Suzano Ventures was represented at AgroVen’s latest Members’ Meeting by Álvaro Andrés Gómez Rodríguez and Marina Moretão, alongside Suzano’s New Business team.   Held at the wonderful Escola Superior de Agricultura "Luiz de Queiroz", the event brought together experts from around the world to discuss key trends, challenges and innovations shaping the biofuels sector in Brazil, including:   🌍 Brazil’s potential to lead the global biofuels market   💡 Novel fuel alternatives such as low-carbon hydrogen, HVA and SAF   📈 The role of data-driven technologies in optimizing operations across the sector   It was also a pleasure to hear from Thais Vieira and Sérgio De Zen on ESALQ’s world-leading research into agroindustrial logistics and listen to Arnaldo Jardim discuss “Fuel of the Future”, the legal framework developing in the sector – followed by an in-depth panel discussion with Alexandre Alonso Alves, Miguel Novato, Jose Arimatea Calsaverini and Mirian Bacchi, expertly moderated by Jaque Silva.   Thank you to Silvio Passos, Michelle Rodrigues, Bernardo Costa and the entire AgroVen team for hosting a brilliant event – which closed with exciting pitches from two deeptech startups, APEXzymes and BChem Biocombustíveis.   Engaging with so many industry leaders and hearing their insights was invaluable, and we would encourage all agri-focused entrepreneurs to connect with AgroVen!   Check out highlights from the event here: https://lnkd.in/eq5NVvrB   #biofuels #agritech #sustainability #innovation #bioeconomy

Yesterday, Marina Moretão and Vinícius Breyer represented Suzano Ventures at the 4Founders Forum Brazil 2024. The event proved dynamic throughout, focusing on the exciting possibilities for scaling startups and fostering innovation in the Latin American ecosystem.   Industry leaders were out in full force, discussing a range of important topics, including:   📈 Rodrigo Baer at Upload Ventures provided insight into investing and scaling B2B companies in today's competitive landscape.   💰 Priscila Rodrigues, Chairwoman at ABVCAP shared various strategies to prepare startups for scaling and fundraising beyond Series A.   💥 Gerry Giacomán Colyer Giacoman from Clara discussed the critical steps required to expand businesses regionally across LATAM markets.   It was interesting to explore the different investment and growth strategies available when navigating a startup’s journey to scale, the growth opportunities and challenges unique to the LATAM region and how to strike a balance between efficient yet sustainable growth.   At Suzano Ventures, we’re always identifying new opportunities to connect with innovators and investors, as we look to support and develop transformative solutions to help build the bioeconomy of the future. #4FOUNDERS Brazil 2024 provided just that – an opportunity to exchange ideas with and learn from such experts in the industry. At Suzano, sustainability drives innovation. More than enhancing business and operational performance, we look to ensure that new products or solutions also have the potential to increase eco-efficiency and sustainability across our operations, having a positive impact on the environment. The completion of the Cerrado Project and startup of our new mill in Ribas do Rio Pardo is testament to this. Beyond increasing Suzano’s total annual pulp production by more than 20%, the facility signifies an important milestone in Suzano’s commitment to innovation and sustainability: 🌳 The new mill is the first in Suzano’s operations to utilize biomass-derived gas as the primary fuel source for its lime kilns, instead of traditional fossil fuels – allowing for a significant reduction in GHG emissions. 🔋 In addition to self-sustaining energy generation and consumption, the new mill also has capacity to generate, in surplus, approximately 180 MW of green energy – enough to power a city of more than 2 million inhabitants for a month. This attitude exists across all verticals of our business – here at Suzano Ventures, we’re no different. But what’s most exciting about our role is that we get to see a bit of everything: from identifying bright ideas or startups with high-potential innovations, to supporting company projects across Suzano’s key operations, such as sustainable forestry. As a result, we’re able to act as a vital conduit for capital, knowledge, and resources – ensuring early-stage deeptech companies receive the support they need to thrive, while allowing Suzano to benefit too, all for the creation of a more sustainable future. #innovation #sustainability #deeptech 

Recently, LAVCA launched its Latin American Startup Ecosystem Insights Report. 🚀   The report underscores Latin America’s promise as a vibrant and evolving market for venture capital, providing insight into some of the key factors driving this potential, which can also be taken forward to the wider VC industry:   📈The importance of consistent investment levels and a focus on the early stage. Latin America's VC ecosystem has shown resilience amid challenging market conditions, with consistent investment of around $1 billion USD quarterly over the past two years. Seed and early-stage rounds made up 57% of VC investments in early 2024, demonstrating a strong pipeline for innovation.   💡 Emerging VC markets in the region, beyond Brazil. The number of VC-backed startups emerging in countries across Latin American has increased, predominantly in Mexico, Chile, Argentina and Colombia, while the number of companies emerging outside of Brazil has grown at a compound annual growth rate of 23% since 2020. New tech hubs are also being developed, reflecting a broadening of entrepreneurial activity across the region.   🌍 Alignment with the global VC industry. Latin America’s focus on sustainability and innovation aligns with global trends, presenting opportunities for VC’s interested in developing impactful, deeptech solutions. Continued VC activity also indicates a strong interest in leveraging local innovation to solve broader industry challenges.   With Suzano’s Brazilian routes, it’s promising to see the growth of Latin America’s evolving startup landscape, which offers significant opportunities for investors, particularly those focused on early-stage, sustainability-driven innovations. Following the announcement of our latest strategic investment, Johann Coelho, CEO of BemAgro S.A sat down with AgFunder News to discuss the company’s recent US$2.6 million pre-Series A funding round, led by CNH.
