🌏 With a world-changing pandemic fresh in the rearview, an ongoing war in Europe, escalating conflict in the Middle East, uncertainty around China – Taiwan, and a years-long trade war underway, geopolitical uncertainty is at the highest level observed in over a decade. All of the aforementioned have potential to suddenly and dramatically change the global business and trade landscape in short order, and thereby reshape the near-, medium- and long-term outlook for #rareearth supply, demand, prices and more. https://lnkd.in/eP2wQNRc

🔋 During the first eight months of 2024, 505.6 GWh of battery capacity were deployed onto roads globally in all newly sold passenger EVs combined, 22% more than the same period last year. Even with a full 61% of the global market already, Asia Pacific still added fresh capacity at a noticeably faster rate (+30% year on year) than the Americas (+22%), which, arguably still in its infancy, constitutes 18% of the global market in GWh terms. After an early bounce this year, overall growth in Europe from January through August has now fallen steeply into negative territory with no signs of an imminent U-turn in progress. In absolute terms, from January through August EV buyers in the Asia Pacific region rolled 309.1 GWh of fresh battery power onto the region’s roads while European drivers (including those in the UK, Russia and non-EU states) added 98.2 GWh and those in the Americas 73.4 GWh. 💡 Full insight: https://lnkd.in/gQVVWcP8

🧲 What are hot-deformed #NdFeB magnets? Made from powder like bonded, fully dense like sintered, but they’re neither: Hot-deformed NdFeB magnets are a third type of widely produced NdFeB magnet that exhibits some of the best properties of both bonded and sintered varieties. https://lnkd.in/gAeaeHUJ

Below is an insight from our new Rare Earth Magnet Market Outlook to 2040 report that is especially poignant today in light of the latest escalation in Myanmar, and resultant mine shutdowns and border closures. "...With a coup underway since February 2021 and ongoing, and often escalating, fighting between the military government and rebel armies, the future of supplies from Myanmar remains uncertain on a month-by-month basis, let alone over the medium- to long-term." 💡 Full insight: https://lnkd.in/gmDzr_XP #rareearths #NdFeB #China #Myanmar

♻ In addition to greater use of cerium, lanthanum, gadolinium and holmium in NdFeB magnets to help ration magnet rare earth oxide supplies, a greater global effort to recover and recycle NdFeB magnets from end-of-life devices can also play a meaningful role in helping to satisfy demand in the years ahead. 💡 Full insight: https://lnkd.in/g4S9DKsw Cyclic Materials Mkango Resources Ltd. 🔋 In total, 505.6 GWh of fresh battery power hit the globe’s roads from January through August, according to data from Toronto-based EV supply chain research firm Adamas Intelligence. The robust growth rate also comes despite a noticeable swing towards hybrid vehicles, which have inherently smaller batteries and therefore contained metal. The combined battery capacity of plug-in hybrid vehicles steered onto roads globally for the first time this year is up 70% versus a must more sedate pace for full electric passenger vehicles of 15%. At the same time the average battery capacity of plug-ins is also rising, up 14% this year to 23kWh, more than a third of the average full electric vehicle. For miners supplying the EV battery industry, the news remain negative: when pairing metals demand with prices in the supply chain, declines this year are brutal. 📊 Must-read analysis from MINING.com: https://lnkd.in/g8WeZUPj

📊 With the commercialization of solid state drives (SSDs) and resultant gradual decline in consumer hard disk drive (HDD) sales since at least 2015, global NdFeB powder demand growth has been suppressed and, over the near-term, is expected to underperform growth of sintered NdFeB alloy demand, which is being propelled higher by EVs, wind power generators and other fast-growing applications. However, over the medium- to long-term, with the acceleration of robotics and advanced air mobility sectors, we expect to see a strong revival of NdFeB powder demand and production growth starting from around 2033. 💡 Full insight: https://lnkd.in/e9fftSbD #robotics #eVTOL #NdFeB Neo Performance Materials
