♻️ Only nine percent of plastics worldwide are recycled — but Alberta researchers are working to change that. In our latest episode of Shift by Alberta Innovates, Dr. Muhammad Arshad from NAIT shares how the activity he's leading within the school's Plastic Research in Action initiative is developing polymer blends that combine recycled and virgin plastics — all with help from industry partner Heartland Polymers. We explore: 🔬 The science behind plastic degradation 🏭 Why 100% recycled products aren't always practical 🌍 How circular economy principles are being applied in surprising sectors (like beekeeping!) This episode pairs perfectly with our earlier conversation with Alberta Innovates' Mehr Nikoo on the circular economy (https://lnkd.in/gKiGPVEk). 🎧 Let’s increase the value chain and turn waste into opportunity! ▶️ Listen now: https://lnkd.in/ggptiSfy #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #PlasticWaste #RecyclingInnovation #AlbertaInnovates #ShiftbyAI Lance Doucette, Ph.D Katie Burnett
