Building better lives and a greener future.

About us

(NASDAQ: ASTL; TSX: ASTL) At Algoma, we are driven by a strong purpose to build better lives and a greener future. We believe in the power of steel to add value to all aspects of our life. We work in partnership with our customers - the great innovators, developers and builders of today- to improve how we live, work, move and grow together. We make strong steel that lasts, offering North America the comfort of a secure steel supply. Based in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Algoma is a producer of hot and cold rolled steel sheet and plate products. With a raw steel production capacity of an estimated 2.8 million tons per year, Algoma’s diverse capabilities enable us to deliver customer-driven product solutions straight from the ladle to direct applications in the automotive, construction, energy, defense, and manufacturing sectors. Algoma is a key supplier to customers across North America and is the only producer of plate steel products in Canada. Our state-of-the-art Direct Strip Production Complex, where we transform liquid steel to a finished coil in about 30 minutes using 40% less energy than a conventional mill, positions us among the lowest-cost producers of hot rolled sheet steel in North America. Our quality products meet international performance standards for manufacturing, automotive, construction, mining, energy, ship, rail and military applications. Algoma is on a transformational journey, modernizing our plate mill and adopting electric arc technology that builds on the strong principles of recycling and environmental stewardship, to significantly lower carbon emissions. We are a founding industry and the largest employer in our community. We want the benefits of our steel to endure for generations. We are working safely, as a team to become one of North America's leading producers of green steel, drawing on the best of our rich steelmaking tradition to deliver greater value to our people, customers, investors, communities, and the world around us.

As a proud contributor to Canada’s steel industry, we are committed to driving economic growth by supplying high-quality, Canadian-made steel for key sectors such as automotive, energy, infrastructure, construction, and transportation. We thank the Canadian Government for its commitment to ensure a fair market for Canadians and steel producers, as it demonstrated in imposing Section 53 tariffs on steel products from China.  Canadian Steel Producers Association (CSPA) #AlgomaSteel #CanadianSteel #CanadianMade #AlgomaEAF #ASTL #FairTrade #BuildingBetterLives

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day, stands as a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of Survivors and their families. It calls upon all Canadians to reflect on how we can actively participate in the ongoing reconciliation process. At Algoma Steel, we recognize that reconciliation requires both understanding and meaningful action. In alignment with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, we are dedicated to fostering deeper relationships with Indigenous Peoples by listening, learning, building respectful partnerships, and supporting education and awareness initiatives. Today, we hosted a screening of Bimibatoo-Win: Where I Ran for our employees, offering them an opportunity to learn about the journeys of Indigenous resilience, identity, and healing. We encourage our employees, customers, and stakeholders to engage with this important day by wearing an orange shirt, listening to Indigenous voices, and supporting Indigenous-led initiatives. #IndigenousPeoplesDay #AlgomaSteel #ASTL #BuildingBetterLives

From playing Jr. Hockey in Thunder Bay to serving four years in the army, where he competed on the Army hockey team against the Air Force, Steve’s passion for the sport shined through. He went on to play for the Detroit Red Wings, setting rookie records for goals and points, followed by a decade in the AHL.
