Beyond the numbers lies the profound impact of each individual acre. In August, ALUS Montérégie enlisted the help of volunteers and dedicated employees to plant a hedge of over 3,100 shrubs on 2.3 kilometers along the edge of hay fields in southern Quebec. 🌳 🌲 This newly created habitat holds the potential of refuge for golden-winged and blue-winged warblers, rare and treasured species that breed in this region of Quebec. Our efforts underscore the potential that even a single acre can make a significant difference for species facing decline. L'observation des oiseaux fait partie intégrante du travail des agriculteurs participant à ALUS. L'activité est de plus en plus populaire et accessible grâce aux nombreuses ressources disponibles telles que les livres et les applications. 🦆 Mais avant ces outils, l'ornithologue amateur Michel Bertrand, 81 ans, observait déjà les oiseaux, ce qu'il fait depuis 68 ans. 🐦

Pollinators such as bees, butterflies, birds and bats, are fundamental to ecosystems, animal and human life. In 2023, ALUS added 7,832 new acres of pollinator habitat, for a total of 42,507 acres. 🦋🌻 Research by Dr. Andrew MacDougall and his team at the University of Guelph in Ontario has confirmed the positive impact of ALUS projects on pollinators and beneficial insects. In fact, there was a 300% increase in pollinators and beneficial insects after project establishment.🐝 Les pollinisateurs, tels que les abeilles, les papillons, les oiseaux et les chauves-souris, sont essentiels pour les écosystèmes et la vie animale et humaine. En 2023, ALUS a ajouté 7832 nouveaux acres d'habitat pour les pollinisateurs, pour un total de 42 507 acres. 🦋🌻 Les recherches menées par Andrew MacDougall et son équipe de l'Université de Guelph en Ontario ont confirmé l'impact positif des projets ALUS sur les pollinisateurs et les insectes utiles.
