𝐑𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧! 🌿 On September 24, 2024, the Town of Vegreville hosted an educational presentation and site tour of its Riverside Cemetery Bank Stabilization Project. Representatives including staff and elected officials from the Town of Vegreville and County of Minburn No. 27, Government of Alberta, and the North Saskatchewan Watershed Alliance were in attendance for the presentation and tour given by Associated Environmental Consultants , the project engineers. As opposed to traditional methods of riverbank stabilization, this project removed the non-native invasive material from the bank and installed wattle fencing and dense live toe staking of native woody riparian vegetation to preserve and strengthen the bank in Riverside Cemetery. This unique concept is designed to slow surface flow velocity to reduce erosion, encourage soil sedimentation, improve infiltration, and reduce runoff. This project was made possible through the Government of Alberta’s Watershed Resiliency and Restoration Program. We have a long history of hosting our #CapacityBuildingSeminars (CBS), dating back more than 30 years. These conferences have covered our key areas of expertise, including #water, #infrastructure, #transportation, #buildings, #environmental, #power and #automation, #assetmanagement, and #climatechange. This week in Calgary, we are holding our first-ever CBS focused on #solidwaste resource management, with over 80 of our #engineering and environmental professional sharing and expanding their collective knowledge. Thanks to our conference co-chairs, organizing team, and presenters for all of their contributions and efforts in putting this CBS together!

As part of Associated Engineering's commitment to #reconciliation, this morning we hosted an #Indigenous awareness webinar open to all of our staff (moderated by Freda L.) in conjunction with the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This year, our guest speaker was Jessica Vandenberghe P.Eng. M.Sc. FEC FGC (Hon), a member of the Dene Thá First Nation, who currently serves as the Assistant Dean, Community and Culture with the Faculty of #Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Victoria and is also the owner of Guiding Star Consulting. Thank you Jessica, for sharing with us many aspects of Indigenous history, culture, and frameworks about how we can increase our awareness, continue our reconciliation journey together, and engage with Indigenous communities in meaningful ways. #NDTR

Coming together again to train, #fundraise, and ride in another #TourdeCureBC to help power cancer research at BC Cancer, our #AEngineeredToRide team successfully overcame some treacherous weather and completed the grueling two-day challenge of collectively riding hundreds of kilometres, including some fierce ascents, before being greeted by sunshine upon reaching the finish line! Thanks to everyone who helped our team achieve their fundraising goal this year and they have reminded us they are already preparing for the 2025 ride, as we all continue to do our part in the fight against cancer.

#Hydrogeologist Marta Green is serving as the Project Manager on the Missezula Lake Water System Improvement project and was recently joined by Dörte Köster and Associated Engineering's Keith Kohut earlier this month for an online information presentation. Marta shares, "It’s a great milestone to be at a point where we have gathered enough information to help the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen and the community at a critical decision point regarding their #watersupply. Our options will help them be #climate resilient into the future, including the threat from algae that can clog cartridge filters quickly if not addressed in the pre-treatment process."
