ASTech Alum RWI Synthetics was honoured to join new and old friends as an award presenter at the 35th ASTech Awards ceremony on November 1, 2024. Celebrating #Alberta’s vibrant and growing tech sector is always a delight! The buzz in the air was fantastic, and it was so inspiring to learn about all the incredible innovations happening across our province. As ASTech Awards winners for “2023 Innovation of the Year” with our partners, Edmonton Global and the Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board, and the “2022 AI and ML in Simulation” by CTO Dean Bittner, it was a great pleasure and a privilege for COO Katelyn Petersen to present an AI/ML Application in Research Award. Still buzzing from Friday night's 35th ASTech Awards! ✨ Huge thanks to Technology Alberta and Gail Powley for organizing such a meaningful celebration of #innovation in Alberta. It was an inspiring evening connecting (and re-connecting) with so many champions of science and technology! The highlight? My dad's science outreach not-for-profit, Praxis Science Outreach Society, took home the final award of the night—the Legacy Award. As a second-generation board member, it felt surreal and deeply meaningful to accept on behalf of an organization that has been part of my life since childhood. We even brought the ASTech Award trophy from 1995! #legacy Praxis was founded 32 years ago, and since then, it has been sparking curiosity and a love for science in over 20 communities around Medicine Hat. Growing up, I experienced firsthand the magic of Praxis, from my brother and I being the original testers for experiments at the Family Science Olympics, entering the Regional Science Fair, participating and later volunteering at Operation Minerva, our program that encourages grade 9 girls to pursue STEM fields (an influence I took seriously). We are a volunteer run organization - putting in over 1000 hours annually into the various events. And now, the legacy continues—my daughter proudly says, "I'm experimenting!" thanks to my dad's influence, carrying on the spirit of discovery that Praxis instilled in me. Everyone at the #ASTechAwards was there for the same reason: to pave the way for the next generation of Alberta’s innovators, scientists, engineers, and changemakers.
